AFP results?- Update

Did you guys get calls from your Drs with the results? Or did you have to call? Or did you just wait until your next appointment to go over w/Dr.

Went for the bloodwork last Weds., Dr. didn't say they'd call or to call in for results. But I don't go back until 2/5 (for Level II).

Thanks Chat Icon

Update: The office finally called me back, and the nurse asked which test I was calling to check on. I said the 'quad screen', because that's what my Dr. called it...and she said 'the AFP?'...I guess so. Anyway, she said "it's negative". I had to ask what that meant, wasn't sure if that was a good thing or bad thing, she said it meant everything was ok. It was just weird hearing it that way--did anyone else get their results in those terms? I know when I go back to the Dr. in 2 weeks he should go over my exact numbers with me, but still...It sounded weird, but I guess I'm happy! Chat Icon

I would call, they should definitely have the results by now...play dumb and say " I am not sure if I was supposed to call you for the results or not but I have not heard anything as of yet"

Good luck Chat Icon

Re: AFP results?

I was told that the policy at my OB is "No news is good news" so if the phone rings and the caller ID shows their number, my heart skips. I usually dont hear from them unless its to confirm the next appointment.

I did hear from them after the Ultrascreen. My number was less than 1:300 (it was 1:259). I had 2 tests after that with no call from the office. I got the results at the next office visit. I am used to it that way but I kinda wish they would call and tell me the tests were good or whatnot.

After the AFP, which I nearly backed out of, I never got a call and she was very blaise about the results when I went the next month - Oh yeah its all good.... Ugh ...

This policy would stress me beyond belief, because in business, although I try to stay on top of things, I do forget to make a phone call here or there, I'm sure it could happen at a busy Drs office too, you know? You are much more patient than I am!!

I never heard anything. At my next appointment, I asked if anything needed to be discussed and she said no.

Re: AFP results?

Once both tests were completed I had to call in a week to get the results. They told me over the phone but when I went for my next visit (3weeks after that) the doctor went over everything with me and explained what each test and risk represented. We were very lucky to have some of the better numbers she has seen so she said that unless I wanted to, she wasn't even going to discuss amnio.

yes..when I spoke with the nurse she said the results were negative but I asked her if she had the numbers. She gave them to me over the phone but my doctor actually explained them all to me.

Re: AFP results?- Update

My dr. has never shared any test results with me. I figure if something was wrong, they'd let me know.....

And I always forget to ask!
