AFP levels
So i just got my results from my OB/GYN...I have to make an appt. with a high risk dr. because of slightly elevated AFP levels...so naturally I am a bit nervous about this....I was originally pregnant with twins and one of the babies stopped developing at 11 weeks...my dr. said levels may be elevated because of loss of twin...has this every happened to any of you??? Also they recommended going to North Shore...anyone have any experience with them??

Re: AFP levels
I have no experience with this Sorry you are going through this but I did read online that the loss of a twin could give a flse positive apf result.

Re: AFP levels
I had a elevated AFP levels with my first and had to have an amnio done and everything was fine I heard that alot of false positives happen with this test and since you had a twin pass im sure thats propably why it was elevated

Re: AFP levels
I hate that test, I never did it because My Doc said it is wrong 80% of the time.

Re: AFP levels
I didn't want to do it either..and my Dr. promised to only give me the results of the Spinal Bifida test...the others have such a high rate of false positive. Even the Genetic counselor suggested not having it altogether.

Re: AFP levels
I had this test and wish I never took it. My levels came back abnormal and I couldn't sleep for two weeks worrying about it. My next pregnancy, I'm skipping that test. It's not worth the worry.
