Adult birthday parties

Other than milestone birthdays (ie. 25, 30, 40, 50, 60 and other increments of 5 or 10 past that), do you think it is necessary to celebrate every year with a gala event? Im not talking about having dinner with family and friends with a cake. I am talking about a planned gathering with a large guest list(50 or more) for, as an example, a 32nd birthday.

In my familiy, the only gala's we spring for are when someone turns 40 and when a couple celebrates 40/50 years happily married.

Re: Adult birthday parties

it is definitely appropriate to celebrate milestones - but yearly birthdays can get out of hand

Thank you. I know a few people who find the need to do this. I think of it as an attention seeking behavior. Then again I also feel that the only people I expect to acknowledge my birthday are 1) the woman who gave birth to me and 2) The man I sleep with. I am not a big birthday person other than milestones.

Re: Adult birthday parties

One of my friends does this every year--sends out evites to over 100 people, some who she hasn't spoken to since college--over 6 years ago. Chat Icon we all just laugh. and i never go. these aren't seated dinners, they are gatherings at bars in the city.

Re: Adult birthday parties

I hate the birthday celebrations-- and after 30-- I can do without them. I feel like before that-- it was a social event when everyone would go out to a bar, etc. and it was something to do that weekend. For 30, you do something bigger-- and after that.. I think something more initimate is better-- however, my single friends still do the parties-- I think for the social aspect of it more so.
