ADT vs. SLOMINS
Dh and I are tying to figure out which home security system we should go with.
They are both giving us the same deal, except slmoins is cheaper by a few dollars per month.
DH's argument is that his parents have ADT and their response time is excellent. and we have no experience with Slomins( we have a friend who has it but not had to "use" it)
Any feedback would be great.
Thanks

Id like to know too! Three kids tried to break into my house yesterday while DH and I were at work, and I have made it my mission today to find a reliable security system

Re: ADT vs. SLOMINS
We are having our house pre wired from Slomins next week. Since there are no walls in the house right now I figured this was the time to do it.
If you need a recommendation for Slomins, I have a really great guy. His name is Bill Romar. His number is 516-351-3951. Please tell him that Scott Budoff from Levittown sent you.
If you use Slomins for an alarm and oil, you get $3 off monthly from your alarm service fee. It is normally $28.

Re: ADT vs. SLOMINS
We installed slomins about a year ago.. The response time is amazing..
BUTTTTTT my only request to you (from personal experience) is do not have Cablevision as your phone carrier.
A few months back our alarm was going off (about 2am) and slomins was unable to contact us because our phone lines were dead. Cablevision does maintenance between 12-5am which automatically shuts your phone line off. We recently changed to Verizon FIOS and have had NO problems since.
With slomins we have two motion detectors, three doors wired and all the windows upstairs, side windows, and back windows wired. It cost us some extra money to do this but it was well worth it. I feel very safe.
We get billed every 3 months including tax I think is about $93.00

yes thank goodness everything was ok it was a false alarm. By cablevision doing the maintenance it turns off phone which then triggers your alarm to go off

They only tried your home phone? The company we use will call our home first, then try DH's cell, my cell and finally a family member we've designated as a contact.

Re: ADT vs. SLOMINS
We decided we were not thrilled with either ADT or Slomins. We went with VMS Security and we've been very happy with them. Send me a PM if you want their contact info.

Re: ADT vs. SLOMINS
DH has ADT for his business. Their response time is very good. A couple months ago DH and I were at dinner in Babylon, we got a call stating that one of the alarms on the building was going off and they would send police. By the time we got from Babylon to West Babylon the police were there and had checked the perimeter.

I had Slomins with Cablevision in my previous house and NEVER had a false alarm like you described. And I know CV does maintenance during those times for sure.
But I also had the wireless cellphone transceiver installed which acted as a backup. The alarm system shouldn't be set up to go off when your phone line gets disconnected anyways because the phones can go down for whatever reason.
With the wireless cellphone transceiver, if lets say a malcontent decides to cut all your wires off from the outside and then triggers a motion or door alarm, the Slomons alarm system will just use the cellphone transceiver to call the central station and send the cops.

Re: ADT vs. SLOMINS
For people that just got ADT... Would you mind sharing how much you paid out of pocket for the equipment and what you received?
I think the biggest difference between the two companies is the cost. ADT tends to be more money, definitely a lot more at startup, and more a month as well.
Slomins will give you a practically free basic system. They just require that you stay with them for 5 years. Don't get Slomins if you think you will sell beforehand or else they will look to bill you for over a GRAND worth of fees. They actually tried to do this with me. Luckily I was aware of their scheme and I got the buyer of my house to assume my monitoring contract.
