Adoption Resources
DH and I were solidly on the fence about being one and done, but we have been discussing adoption more and more. We have done some preliminary research, but would love if anyone with first hand experience can point us in the direction of resources or anything else that you think would be beneficial. Ideally we would like to adopt a girl (we have one DS), and we are unsure if we would want to do international or domestic adoption.

I do not have any resources for domestic adoption but I do know there are many ways to adopt, via a lawyer, an agency, through foster. My suggestion would be to just google NY domestic adoption and you will pull up a ton of resources. I know Spence Chapin is a good place to start.
We adopted from China twice. We just got home with our new daughter about 7 months ago. China adoption has change over the years and you can not adopt a very young girl anymore with no special needs. The program is mainly special needs (ranging from very mild to severe) and the ages are from anywhere from 15 months to 14 years old. If your interested in China, I suggest calling up one of the agencies and they will walk you through all the requirements and what your expectations should be. We used Gladney and loved them. There are multiple Facebook groups as well to ask questions. There are also other countries such as Taiwan, Columbia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Korea. CCAI is also another great agency to get information from and they service many of the above countries.
If you have any specific questions, please me know. Good luck!!

I have no advice but wanted to say good luck. We are also one and done in terms of biological children but discuss the possibility of adoption in the future We would want an older child. The expense is the only thing holding us back.

Yes the cost is alot, but you do get a good chunk back on your taxes, if you qualify (we did not). I think it's about $13,000 credit which helps. There are also a bunch of fundraising pages if you need and they also just made the orphanage donations true donations so you can pay whatever you want instead of the $6000 we had too. Once you get your child, the money spent is secondary and you'll want to bring 10 more home with you : ).
