Adjusting to full-day nursery school
DD will be 3 in November. She just started full day (8:30-3, Tues/Thurs) nursery school yesterday. Well it was a rough day for her. The director and teacher told me that she cried quite a bit through the day - they actually used the term "inconsolably crying" . I know it's going to be an adjustment for her but it just breaks my heart that she was so upset.
Does anyone have any advice or any BTDT experience with this? I know it's only the first day but I can't stop thinking about it.

Adjusting to full-day nursery school
I'd give it a month and re assess. The thing about only going 2 days is that it's going to take a while for her to get used to (in contrast to going 5 half days for example). My DS just started preschool also at age 3. Today was his second day and they had to peel him off of me. It may get worse before it gets better. It's really hard but I'd stick with it for a while and see.

Re: Adjusting to full-day nursery school
My 3 yo DS just started full day nursery 5x a week this week. It's the first time he has been to any real type of school. I used to work p/t and had family/neighbor watch him. Now I started back full time. He has had some good days and some bad days. It is a big change for them. Each night we have had a talk to him about going to school and that seems to help. Hang in there it will get better.

Give it time. Kids adapt pretty quickly.
And I am sure she is not the only one who is having a hard time. And even kids that would normally be great when they see other kids crying it sets a chain reaction. So she might not be having a bad time but with other kids having issues it can escalate hers.
My DS has been in daycare since 8 weeks for full 10hr days. He is even having a tough time this week. New classroom and kids cryign all over the place so he is now too.
They all go through it and I'm sure it will be better. Tuesdays might be worse than Thursday's though so just prepare yourself and maybe talk about school over the weekend and such. Generally the longer the gap the worse the first day back of the week but that too will fade away as she gets set int he routine.

Give it at least 2 weeks before you make any decisions. It takes time for children (and adults!) to adjust to any new situation. In the longrun, getting out and socializing will be better for her, so I wouldn't give up after only a couple of days.

Re: Adjusting to full-day nursery school
My twins are also going to be 3 in November. They are going 3 days a week for 2.5 hours each day. Today was the first day. They didn't cry but I think more than half the class was screaming when we left. Kids adjust. Don't worry. Mine didn't cry but I was told they have no limits, were pretty much wild, and very immature. None of this surprised me, but it's gonna be a long road ahead. Hang in there momma! You'd be surprised at how different she'll be in a month, 3 months, 6 months. Just remember you are doing this because it's good for her.
