Adjustable waist bands....do they hurt your DC? I need an idea on how to fix this problem

My DS is so thin so need to buy adjustable waistbands.

Is there a trick on getting them not to hurt anymore. He can't use belts since he doesnt know how to work them.

Anyone else with this problem?

What actually hurts him? I can't imagine what would hurt. Dd's is elastic and a button. Do they need to be lossened a bit? Maybe sewing some fabric over it to protect it but easy enough to take off to adjust. I'm not sure

DS complains all the time that they bother him because I literally have them on the last hole so I take the leftover band (if you know what I'm talking about) and hang it out of his pants.
It doesn't look great but his shirts cover it so you cant see it and it makes him feel better.

I used to cut the elastic to about 1/2 the length or double button it. DS never grows out of the waist size, just the length.

You can just fold the part that hangs & button it, so it's like a loop & not sticking out

I actually will put an undershirt or tee shirt on ryan, tuck it into the pants so the loop/button thing never touch his skin. It works!

What brands have adjustable waist bands pants? By chance, I found 1 pair at ON when he was wearing a size 9month & it didn't seem to bother DS but I can't seem to find pants with the adjustable waistband anymore. I'd need toddler sizes now. 2t, 3t, etc.
