Acne.....

I have a mild case of adult acne. Normally I use St. Ives blemish scrub and clerasol cleansing pads. I feel like I should be using something else. It works fine, but i'm getting older and need a little more these days. I have looked at Particia Wexler's stuff from bath and body works, but I don't know. PLEASE do not advise Pro-Active it doesn't work for me. I'm looking for a cleanser and exfoliator, poss a toner, a moisturizer, and maybe a night repair cream. ANY help woukld be nice!! TIAChat Icon

Re: Acne.....

Here is what I use and it's a good formula for people with mild acne and sensitive skin:

AM:
Neutrogena Acne Stress Control foam wash
a few times a week, I use the scrub from the stress control line
No toner for me, but if you want one, I would suggest Thayers Witch Hazel.
A quarter size of Murad Exfoliating Acne Gel if I feel I need it. Let dry.
Murad spf 15 Correcting Moisturizer. It's green but goes on clear for those who get red or blush easily.
Then just powder. I use Physician's Formula Mineral Wear. The powder is just enough to even out my skin. Check what's in your foundation....

PM:
Same except after I wash I use Arbonne Re9 (i think that's what it's called) Night Cream. It's amazing. Once a week I do a mask from the Arbonne line, the thermal mask. If I feel a zit coming on, I use the spot treat from Murad.

Also, I watch my diet. For me, dairy causes chin/jawline acne BIG TIME.

I have also used the Murad line with good luck. You can buy a starter kit at Sephora of the Murad Acne stuff for like $30. IMO, St. Ives isn't good...the scrubbies are a little irritating.Chat Icon Chat Icon When I first started breaking out badly it was before I got married. Prescriptions didn't work at all. I found Sage Skincare and it helped a lot. After a while, it stopped working and I went on to Murad, but for a LONG TIME it gave me great skin. www.zerozits.com

I started to get adult acne when I was in my 20's. I also used Murad but tehre are a lot of steps. I think what you arte using(the OP not Lana) is too harsh for adult skin. I know I break out from sensitivity as well as hormones. I use Netrogena anti acne wash in the AM in the shower and then I use a medi spa product called Obagi cleanser at night. The biggest difference in my skin has bene from Bare Minerals. I ran out and used a liquid foundation for a week or so and totally broke out. Pro active also works well but again it is a lot of steps for me.

Re: Acne.....

I noticed the biggest difference in my skin when I switched to Mineral makeup (I use Bare Minerals).

I have to agree that your routine sounds a little harsh for adult skin.

I use Neutrogena Anti Aging Anti Acne cleanser and Oil of Olay Regenerist Night Cream each morning and night.

The Regenerist is a little "perfumey" but it doesn't bother my skin.

Re: Acne.....

If you have oily skin with the acne there is a stong PanOxyl Benz Wash (10%) that I use about 3xs a week that dries out zits very quickly.

Re: Acne.....

I was having problems with adult acne as well. I also tried pro active and it made my skin terrible and oily for the first time. I also tried other things with many steps from Lancome, Clinique, etc.

I never had it in highschool either, so I took a leap and stopped using all the expensive stuff I bought and went back to my highschool routine: Neutrogena Deep Clean Facewash and Olay complete all day moisture for sensitive skin with SPF 15. Twice a day.

I swear I haven't seen a zit since. I don't know if it is just leaving my face alone or the zinc in the lotion but it's super easy so I like it!

Re: Acne.....

Ugh.

I am also a member of the adult acne community. I was on a prescription for a long time, which kept things clear, but now that I am TTC, well, had to give it up.

I suggest Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Wash...it's a bit pricey, but IMO, it is so great for the skin. I also bought the ZENO, which has been a godsend. Again, pricey, but totally worth it.

I hope 2008 brings you (and the rest of us with this ANNOYING problem) clear a$$ skin!

Re: Acne.....

I would go to the dermatologist and get a prescription for Retin A or Differin so you don't waste your money trying every companies acne line out there! The prescriptions work the best for me.

Re: Acne.....

I have been going through this for the past couple of years on and off. For me it is all hormone related. I suggest going to a dermatologist. I have tried every product out there and all I ever end up with is an irritated face, which makes the acne even worse. Minocyclene has worked wonders for me.

Re: Acne.....

I had acne all the way through college. Right before I graduated I found this website and used the step by step treatment plan provided by the site. My acne has been a bay since. Chat Icon You do not need to buy the acne.org products - when I started using this technique they didn't even have any products. Just go and buy the ones from the store and follow his steps.

Here is the site.
