Acid Reflux from Breastfeeding?
Is it possible for an infant to have acid reflux from breastfeeding?
My DS spits up, hiccups and arches his back in pain quite often. After a feeding he would cry if he's not in a vertical position...
Does that sound like acid reflux to you?
The doctor prescribed us Zantac but tells us to fill it only if we're certain in the next week or so...

BFind does not guarantee your DC will not have reflux or colicky.
Are you watching your diet?

DD had a small issue. I cut out cheese yogurt and milk from my diet and her issues went away.

Re: Acid Reflux from Breastfeeding?
That definitely sounds like acid reflux. My son has silent acid reflux, where they have all the symptoms of reflux yet they don't spit up. He is so much worse after breastfeeding, that I started giving him formula.
They say reflux peaks at 4 mo. which it did for my ds. I decided to start him on Zantac this week and notice a big difference right away. I can definitely say breastfeeding can make reflux worse in some children.

Re: Acid Reflux from Breastfeeding?
DS had a ton of spit up on both BM and Formula. We didnt really have reflux...no pain with it...but my point is that it didn't seem to matter which I gave him, he spit up everything! We tried soy formula too and that didn't help either.

Re: Acid Reflux from Breastfeeding?
i don't know if you can say it is from BFing but it is certainly possible for a BF infant to have reflux. DD had not only bad reflux but she also had colic as an infant. It suddenly disappeared on day at about 5-6 months. I had altered my diet and we never found out if it was from anything I was eating. DD was on zantac - not sure how much it helped but it was better on it but not totally gone.
etd just to add - DD arched her back, spit up profusely (sometimes projectile) and would cry a lot. We found it was better in the mornings when we would sit her up in the swing or bouncer seat rather than in our arms after feedings.

Exactly the same thing with us. We had an RX for zanatac but only gave it to her a few times.
When I altered my diet it seemed to help things out.

Re: Acid Reflux from Breastfeeding?
Thanks for responding everyone.
I just gave some Zantac to DS today. Hopefully it will help within 2 weeks, otherwise we may just have to resort to something else like switching to formula or changing my diet entirely... I'm not eating enough as is so am not sure how to even cut back further.
