Accutane & Oily Skin
I have suffered from oily skin and acne for 20 years...The acne has finally gotten to a point where it doesnt stress me out as much but at 35 I kind of thought it would be gone..KWIM?
Any way....
I have extremely, horribly, oily skin. Within a couple of hours my makeup is slipping off. My skin gets so oily that it gets in my eyes.
A doctor told me a few years ago that the only way to stop the oil was to go on Accutane. Since Im not really doing it for the acne it should only take a month or two to get the desired results....
Since I had my tubes tied 7 months ago Im ready now to take the Accutane. It scared me too much before...
Has anyone taken Accutane specifically for oil control? Or if you did take Accutane did it dry your skin?
TIA

Re: Accutane & Oily Skin
Accutane is THE miracle acne drug!! My mother, brother, sister and I all have taken it- my mother took it just for extremely oily skin, while my siblings and I took it for the oily/acne combo! It is a potent drug with some side effects, but you wont really know how you'll react till you take it. I was on a very low dosage for about 2 years (most people aren't allowed on it that long- but my dose was LOW). My biggest thing was extremely chapped lips- I mean BAD, like nothing you've ever experienced! After about 2 years I started to see blood in my stool and thats when I went off it but it has kept my skin so nice even years later! My sister and brother bot recently had to go back on it after years of being off it and they have def gotten stricter with their policies- we never had monthly blood tests when we took it almost 10 years ago. My sisters only complaint is the chapped lips and dry mouth. But the results are so worth it to her and it doesn't take long to see those results!
GOOD LUCK

Re: Accutane & Oily Skin
It will help - It literally dries out everything. I took it for about 6 months while a Jr. in college and it is w/o question a miracle drug. -

Accutane is a pretty hardcore drug. You'll have to get regular blood tests to make sure your kidneys are functioning properly.
Have you exhausted all the mattifying products out there? I never leave home without an arsenal of anti-oil products.

Re: Accutane & Oily Skin
I took it about 4 years ago for six months- it did dry me out and now my skin is being back to slightly oily but I don't have break outs anymore. keep in mind you WANT some oil- oily skin doesn't age or wrinkle like dry skin does!

Re: Accutane & Oily Skin
Loved it! The only thing that worked for me. I took it mainly for acne for 6 months when I was a sr. in high school but like everyone else really said the only reaction I had was really chapped lips. It dries your body out a lot but it totally helped me and I barely get a pimple now and it has been over 10 years. My sister is on it right now and so far so good for her also. (she is 20)

Re: Accutane & Oily Skin
I was on accutane four, yes four times. Each time I was on it, it worked for me - I took it for acne, not for oily skin. Like the others have said, it will dry you out, your skin and your lips especially. I used to walk around with supplies of moisturizer and chapstick. The last time I took it I was on a low dosage and it seemed to do the trick, I've been pretty acne free for a long time now. Good luck!

I dont have a problem with all the blood tests..
I dont know anyone with skin as oily as mine...for just once in my life I'd like to just not feel like this greasy thing..
Im glad to hear that it will dry me out...
Thanks.

Re: Accutane & Oily Skin
I took it in college and I had oily skin. While I was on it, my skin was so dry it hurt. My lips were so cracked and dry they were bleeding everyday. My hair was like straw. I was peeling like I had been sun burnt constantly.
Its been years now and my skin is still much clearer than it was and the oiliness has come back with time, but accutane is not a fun drug to be on.

Re: Accutane & Oily Skin
I'm a HUGE fan of Accutane. I too call it the miracle drug. I had horrible acne, huge cyst like acne & very oily skin. It was the only thing that worked. I had to be on BC & get the monthly blood test to check cholesterol & make sure I wasn't PG, but boy...clear skin to this day.
