Abnormal bleeding

Sorry for the TMI. I've had mid cycle spotting/bleeding since the spring every single month! I went to the gyno in August. She sentt me for a pelvic ultrasound, which she said showed maybe a polyp or fibroid. Then sent me for a hysterosono, which she told me was normal. I guess the possible fibroid/ polyp was gone? She said if i continued to bleed to let her know and she'd do a hysterscopy. So, I kept bleeding and let her know. She then tells me it's perimenopause and to go on BCP or an IUD and that there's no way to test for that. Blood work won't show if it's perimenopause because hormones change every day according to her. I don't know what to do. I really don't think it's perimenopause. I mean I guess it's possible but I just don't think so. I feel like something is wrong. Do you think I should ask for a biopsy?? She never told me my endometrium was thickened either though it says that in my online patient portal. I'm 43.thanks for any advice.

Find a new OBGYN.

The thickened endometrial lining could be cause for concern or nothing - but for her not to even mention it, I don't like that.

I'm not having mid cycle bleeding, but am having very heavy periods. My dr DID blood work to see if anything looked out of whack and also had me get sonos specifically as soon as my period ended so he could measure the lining to be sure nothing is happening there.

I don't like when drs dismiss our concerns. If I were you, I'd either ASK for a biopsy or see a new Dr all together and start over. Mid cycle bleeding is never normal. Could truly be your hormones are changing right now, but it should not continue for months on end.

Re: Abnormal bleeding

Find another doctor.
Hopefully it's nothing, but I wouldn't be happy with the way she "dismissed" your concerns.

I just switched my GYN because she changed.
No longer took time with her patients, crammed so many into a day that it was like an assembly line.
My mom died of uterine cancer and she knew that, it is something that always weighs heavy on my mind, especially more so since I have never had children.

Re: Abnormal bleeding

I've had this every month for at least eight years. I also had the whole battery of tests-including an endometrial biopsy-and everything was normal...I also had the possible polyp. I'm your age and had one of my kids after this began, so it wasn't perimenopause.

It was masked for some time because it doesn't happen while I'm on BCP, so my obgyn chalked it up to a hormonal issue in the end.

One question though...do you have kids? I have had three c-sections (as did a friend of mine who also has this issue) and my doctor thinks hormones may trigger my internal scarring to shed trapped period blood (Ew!)The spotting, in my case, is very dark, which indicates old blood...so this "explanation" seems to make sense.

Otherwise, yeah, no real diagnosis Chat Icon

I just had mid cycle bleeding for the first time a few months ago. I am in my 40s. It is probably my age, they said, but they did sono and want me to get a biopsy. So I have that scheduled.

This is the right way to handle mid cycle bleeding. Most likely just part of aging - but just to be safe, you get checked out
