Re: A REALLY smart bird!

Believe it or not, I found an African Grey in a bush outside my house about a year or so ago. I walked by and he said Hello! Chat Icon

He was so sweet. Climbed right up my arm, hung around for the night and then the next day we brought him to the shelter. We were considering adopting him if his owner didn't find him. But happily, his owner came in and got him. Chat Icon

Re: A REALLY smart bird!

That's Einstein! I love that video.

We also have an African Grey..and he talks up a storm! He rings the phone, and sometimes I answer it, and no one is there.

He also barks like the dogs, he speaks in my voice, and loves to call my husband when he is not in the room...so my DH is screaming on the other side of the house, "What is it?" and our bird will continue to call him, "Brian!"...this goes on all the time!

He must know 1000 words/sounds.

We had construction going on in the house, and immediately, our bird was making all the different cell phone rings of the workers...they would be answering the phone but no one was there.

I could go on all day about the different things he does.

They are one of the smartest animals in existence. There's a person in California, Dr. Pepperberg, who has been studying Alex, another Grey, for 20 or so years, and I think the latest research is that if you teach them, they can read.

Just amazing!

Re: A REALLY smart bird!

Right now, my bird is asking my dogs if they'd like a biscuit...and he addresses them by their names.
