A Question Regarding IUI's
I have an appointment set up for the end of Sept. at LI IVF with Dr. Brenner since DH and I have been struggling to get PG. DH had a SA a few years back and was fine. I was wondering if IUI's are mainly used for male factor IF or if they are used in other cases as well. TIA!

Re: A Question Regarding IUI's
If there was a male factor, such as low motility or low sperm count, then IUIs would be pointless.

Re: A Question Regarding IUI's
IUIs can be used for a multitude of reasons. We are using IUIs because of a female anatomical issue. My cervix has scar tissue from a cone biopsy/laser procedure. A regular semen sample, without washing, is too viscous to get past it. The narrow catheter allows a washed sample to bypass the problem area and go right into the uterus. Good luck.

Re: A Question Regarding IUI's
We are planning to do three medicated cycles without IUI. My DH's SA was normal, our problem is that I don't ovulate. My Dr. said with no male factor the IUI only increases our chances by 2-3% so we're going to try it the "old-fashioned" way for a few cycles.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have also heard that if there are no male factor issues, IUI is basically useless.

Re: A Question Regarding IUI's
Generally if male factor is the problem IVF is the way to go. Insurance is big deciding factor though..if your insurance doesn't cover IVF, then IUI at least increases your chances a little since the sperm is washed and inserted into the uterus so they have a better chance.
