A question about progesterone capsules...
Hi all,
I am 4 1/2 weeks pregnant and my dr prescribed me progesterone capsule 200 mg to be taken vaginally at night! My concerns are here:
1) my progesterone level at 4 weeks is 13 which my dr said was a good number! She said that since I had a low-normal level in the past she wants me on it just in case and it would raise the level a little! Do you think it's ok to take a progesterone supplement if my lever was ok? Could it cause harm to baby? My drs office is not open til Monday and I had to start last night and I don't know what to do?
2) the capsules are oral capsules that can be taken vaginally? Has anyone taken the oral capsules vaginally? Were there any complications?
I am going to call on Monday but since I had to start then last night your feedback and experiences would help ease my mind! Plus, I think my drs are going to think I'm crazy as I worried since I had a low-normal is the past and now I will be questioning the treatment !
Help!
Thanks, Jackie

Re: A question about progesterone capsules...
Too much progesterone cannot harm the baby. I used an RE and everyone was put on progesterone as a precaution because not having enough CAN hurt the pregnancy but having more than you need won't.
I have used oral pills vaginally before (estrogen though, not progesterone). It's absolutely fine... It just gets absorbed better down there because it goes to the source and doesn't have to wait for you to digest it.
I totally get being so worried but just think.. Your doctor recommended you do these things. They are in the business of keeping you pregnant, they wouldn't tell you to do something that would jeapordize things!!! Good luck!!

Re: A question about progesterone capsules...
I was on vaginal progesterone capsules 3x's a day for over a month on top of progesterone injections due to low progesterone levels. It won't harm the baby and it sounds like your doctor is just being cautious since your only on it one capsule at night. Orally progesterone does not do such a great job as it does vaginally. The only side effects I had was it has a messy white cement like discharge so wear a panty liner and it did make me a little dizzy.

A question about progesterone capsules...
Thanks! I just am stressed about taking things if I don't really need it! I am always calling the dr worried about things -- calling about my past levels, asking for blood work, and now that they prescribe me something I want to call to question it... I think that will think I'm nuts! I look deep into everything! I have to stop reading on line and just trust the drs and my friends on LI families

Re: A question about progesterone capsules...
I was on the oral capsules with my last pregnancy and I am with this one too. This time my progesterone was 14 and he put me on them "just in case" because he likes to see the #s over 15. There is no harm.
Try to relax. Congrats!

Wow... Thanks! That was my worry having a good level (13) and starting the capsules... But I guess it's to be safe because the numbers could be higher! I appreciate your feedback! Best of luck!!
