a lot of us seem to have had c-sections recently

I'm trying to think if there is any helpful info worth sharing regarding them. . .

1. not being able to move your lower body is a freaky feeling.

2. I had no idea they had begun the surgery - I thought they were prepping me and then they said "the head is out!"

3. Most people start shivering from the medication - my teeth were rattling around - but it's totally normal and goes away as soon as it's over.

4. C-section babies have much more mucus in their lungs than vaginally delivered babies (the birth canal pushes all that gunk out of them) so there is more agressive suctioning going on after delivery - and it's very very common for c-section babies to get congested a day or two after delivery - just more mucus working its way out of their system.

5. I personally felt claustrophobic when the blue curtain thing was held up in front of my face - but I'd rather look at that than the surgery.

6. I started crying when I was told I'd need a c-section cause I thought I'd be missing out on the experience of delivery - but the second you hear your baby cry, you really dont care at all.

If anyone has any other info to add - please do so!

I agree with everything - but I didnt feel claustrophobic from the curtian - just annoyed because I couldnt see my baby for a while after they took him out!!!

Thanks for posting this. I am sched for a c-section on Tues, and not freaking out...yet, but curious what to expect!

with all the hype---I didn't feel the local injections to numb or the spinal--or the epidural in the past..the IV is the worst part of the entire thing by far....


also...let me add--I shook like a leaf the first 2x...three times was a charm! I did not shake at all.

I think I had a pretty easy one - I wasn't bothered by the needle, the curtain or the shivering AND - It took only 10 minutes!

Just one more thing...

I had my c-section in July 05 and the feeling still hasn't completely come back where the incision is! So weird to touch there!

Yes, all true--the not feeling my legs was the absolute worst part for me.

Also, be prepared for a rough recovery--once you are able to get up, you will probably find yourself unable to stand up straight, get out of bed without assistance, etc.

Also, make sure no funny people visit you in the hospital--let's say laughing (or sneezing, for that matter) is not funny

Otherwise, by the time you get home, you'll be relatively back to "normal."
