A long night sleeping on the couch...

Last night DS just would not go to sleep. I would rock him and he would finally fall asleep but as soon as I would put him in his crib he would wake up and cry. He has never done that before! I had to have him sleep in his swing and I slept on the couch next to him. Throughout the night he really didn't eat all that well either. He usually guzzles down his 4 ounces but he was taking his sweet time and then would only take 2-3 ounces. I wonder what his deal isChat Icon .

Re: A long night sleeping on the couch...

How old is he?

The only things I can think of are: teething (if he's older), a trapped burp or other gas, or just a tough night for him.

I had many nights like that with a colic baby, so I feel your pain. Chat Icon Hope tonight is better for you Chat Icon

Has he had a cold or any congestion? My DS usually did this when he had ear infections.... Wouldn't eat well, and cry when I laid him down.

He is almost 5 weeks old so I know it's not teething. He didn't seem to have gas either. He had been burping and passing gas all day and night and he wasn't bringing his legs up. I was thinking that maybe he had some reflux b/c he ate a big bottle before he went to bed and then started with the crying, fussing, and not eating as well. I'm just not sure what is considered "normal" and what is reflux.

Did he sleep too much during the day?

Ryan is impossible to nap during the day. But when he was that age if he slept too long during the day he slept terrible at night.

Could have been a bit of gas. Were you successful with burping?

He ended up falling asleep pretty early. I think it was around 7ish. DH and I woke him up at 9pm. He had a 6 ounce bottle and then was awake and fine till 11pm. He fell asleep at around 11-11:15 and when I put him in his crib he started with the crying. I gave him a bottle around 12 (his normal 3 hour interval) and he only took 2 ounces and then fell asleep in my arms. I tried to put him in the crib and he started crying. This went on 2 or 3 more times before I decided to put him in the swing for the night. Then he slept for almost 4 hours in the swing! Which was great for me cause I needed the sleep.

That is when witching hour started for my DD. The good thing if it's that, it peaks at 6 weeks!
