A lil DH / New Home Vent

I wish my wonderful Dh would just listen... I feel as lavish as I can be sometimes I'm a realist! We just bought a house with a brand new kitchen that has beautiful GE PROFILE APPLIANCES...
that are amazing and some people don't even get that when buying a house but they are WHITE and match the kitchen great! but DH hates white and wants stainless... In my book it ain't broke don't fix it be grateful! that is a huge expense saved and now we can do something else with money but these are the stupid things he gets hungup on for no reason! driving me crazy and when he tells to people it makes me nutz because he sounds like a moronChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: A lil DH / New Home Vent

I feel your pain! would he consider selling them first and then looking for new ones?

If you guys are sitting on a lot of extra cash, then get new ones, but otherwise I'd wait. Unexpected expenses always arise in a "new" home.

Re: A lil DH / New Home Vent

Why don't you try to compromise- tell him you are fine with getting new ones if you can live 6 months in the house first. He just may change his mind. I was not prepared for the amount of money that we started hemorrhaging the minute we bought our house, (and it was in great condition!) and he may not realize this either.

I wouldn't be surprised if the idea of throwing money away on new appliances when you already have good ones loses it's allure in favor of furniture, landscaping, window coverings, etc.....

Re: A lil DH / New Home Vent

Has he priced them out? Stainless steel is a LOT of $$ and like someone else said - you will be amazed at the amount of money you spend as soon as you buy a house. You can get soooo much done in your house for the price of what stainless steel appliances will cost you.

Heck, I don't think a weekend goes by that we're not at either HD or Lowe's!

Re: A lil DH / New Home Vent

what about if you try to sell the white ones on craigs list and put the money towards the SS ones?

but I do agree that many more expenses are going to come up- he might get over this idea quick!

I know what you are feeling. DH gets that way too. Like if everything is not done right away, the house will be a mess.

I just deal with it by telling him we cannot afford to re-do the kitchen, bathroom, whatever. In his head, he knows we can't.

Re: A lil DH / New Home Vent

IF you have the extra money then go for it. But truthfully, when we moved in our house last year, we had a fairly new kitchen and SS appliances that were 2 years old and we were contemplating changing them (Actually not me , my DH was OBSESSED with getting all LG b/c that i what we had in our other house) but I really talked him out of it and now 1 year later i am so happy we didn't. As long as they are clean and work and nice then those are the type of things I feel you do not start replacing until you need.
That's just my advice!

Re: A lil DH / New Home Vent

Um, are you married to my DH? We just went throught the SAME EXACT thing....bought a house with beautiful brand new WHITE appliances, and he doesnt like white....wants to replace them with stainless steel. Luckily I was able to convince him that it doesnt really make financial sense right now...crisis averted.

Re: A lil DH / New Home Vent

I'd wait a little while. We moved into a house that was 'move in ready' and within 2 months we had to repair a damaged pipe that started to flood our kitchen, we needed to completely repair our fireplace as the firebox started to detach from the house, needed to repair part of the roof when some roofing tiles flew off during a storm, and now we'll need to get a new boiler.

the expenses that come up, even in a move in ready house, can be Chat Icon - I'd wait.

Re: A lil DH / New Home Vent

Well I love all the great and understanding feedback! I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who has this minor issue...but after spending a day at home depot expo I realized that this is a battle I can no longer wiin.
He said we should sell the appliances that are currently there and take money to get SS ones!
Whatever works, If this is what has to happen RIGHT NOW then it's his call, He is being fair in a sense. He is basically letting me re-model and decorate with no commenting.
