A few questions about lynbook, and surrounding areas.
My dh works for the city and his union has a residency requirerment that may be lifted soon and we will be headed for Li in about two years. Headed to Li like i live in a nother country we livein douglaston now. Anyway he works for the city and for some reason his union has a residency requirerment of the 5 bouroughs. It may be lifted. I am happy and not happy in a way.
If we stayed in queens we would look in bayside , whitestone, douglaston. You get less for your momey but taxes are low and our kids would go to catholic school. if we move to nassau we would go to areas like lynbrook, oceanside, malverne etc. but coudl not do the taxes AND catholic sachool.
How are the school districtscs that i mentions. I have heard mixed things about malverne. i knwo you can also get a house in the west hempstead area but its rockville center schools which i heard are great! Also do these areas have fullday pre k. We wouldnt be moving for about two years when my final raise kicks in from the texcahers contract( nyc teacher). TIA

Re: A few questions about lynbook, and surrounding areas.
My stepdaughter attends lynbrook, she lives primarily w/her mom. She is in middle school. The district gets rave reviews. My DSD does very well but she is extremely bright & would do well anywhere. The middle school she is in is small, only a couple of hundred kids. It has come to light in the last week or so that most of the 8th graders having been drinking alcohol. I was horrified, my DS who is now 20 was not drinking that young. I'm not saying it has anything to do with the school district but I'm totally freaked out about it. The music programs are great. the taxes are high & the houses are right on top of each other, but I'm a suffolk gal so I think that about most of Nassau.

Re: A few questions about lynbook, and surrounding areas.
We live in Oceanside and it is somewhat affordable and has great schools. Lynbrook is a bit more expensive and the schools are great too.
There are some sections of Malverne that are Valley Stream Schools and that's the part you would want to look for.
As for the RVC Schools, you'd be looking at South Hempstead. Because of the school district being so desirable, the houses are a bit more expensive than say, Oceanside, but more affordable than RVC.
Good luck! If you need any help on the Oceanside/RVC area, FM me.

Re: A few questions about lynbook, and surrounding areas.
I grew up in Lynbrook. I lived in the Yorkshire section behind Audi on Sunrise Hwy and Cutlers lighting.
Excellent family orientated area. I lived in the Valley Stream School district but some of the area is Lynbrook School District also.

Re: A few questions about lynbook, and surrounding areas.
I am in Malverne and love it!!! And our children will be going to Malverne Elementary but Catholic Junior & Senior. Not because of the districts but because we would send them to Catholic schools regardless of where we lived. The taxes are high here. We pay $10,000 for a small house. I also love VS and Lynbrook. Great schools but I think Lynbrook has high taxes too.
ETA: I LOVE Oceanside

Re: A few questions about lynbook, and surrounding areas.
I am a Lynbrook teacher and, I may be biased, but Lynbrook is a wonderful town with wonderful schools. It is a very tight community and sooooo many of the Lynbrook teachers live within their own town, which says a lot about their commitment to the properity of the town.

Re: A few questions about lynbook, and surrounding areas.
West Hempstead goes to WH, not RVC.
Lynbrook schools are great as well as East Rockaway....
Malverne residents can go to VS or Malverne schools.....

Re: A few questions about lynbook, and surrounding areas.
We are new-ish to Lynbrook - bought a year ago. We love it here despite all the problems with our old home. Taxes are high here, but not horrible. We pay under $8k/year and we are in SD #20. Lynbrook actually has 2 districts & another portion which is part of VS schools. When you are looking just look for SD #20 in the listing details. It may cost a tad bit more but elementary, middle and HS are great and we would never consider sending ds to private. My neighbors son has special needs and he gets to go to a special public school on the other side of town and they don't pay anything extra.
Feel free to FM me with any specific questions!

Re: A few questions about lynbook, and surrounding areas.
Lynbrook is a great school district. Some parts of East Rockaway are also in the Lynbrook school district, as well as some parts of Lynbrook that are in the ER district. I grew up in ER - but went to Catholic schools.
I lived in RVC for while and it is also a great district.
