Holiday Train Show/Gingerbread Adventure - 11/23/08-1/11/09

We went last year & had a blast. Since I said I would post the pictures for those that missed them last year & were interested in going, here is the info.

The New York Botanical Gardens has a great holiday line-up of events for those interested.

Holiday Train Show
November 23, 2008–January 11, 2009
Enid A. Haupt Conservatory

The holiday season is full of family traditions, and the Holiday Train Show is one of the most eagerly awaited.

Wrapped in the glow of twinkling lights, model trains and trolleys zip along over bridges and on winding tracks past scaled replicas of New York landmarks made by award-winning designer Paul Busse. Orange slices, cinnamon sticks, poppy pods, pine cones, and other plant parts are used to create the more than 140 architectural reproductions.

Highlights

Stars of the show: Steam engines and streetcars, whimsical ladybugs and modern freight trains traverse under waterfalls, around mountains, and through tunnels.

Annual favorites: The Empire State Building, Little Red Lighthouse, Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, and more return to thrill visitors of all ages.
Yankee Stadium: The actual 85-year-old beloved icon is scheduled for demolition this winter, but the botanical replica is sure to be a big attraction with nostalgic fans.

New This Year

Rose Center for Earth and Space, home of the famous Hayden Planetarium, Manhattan
Four replicas in New York City’s Historic House Trust
Hendrick I. Lott House, Brooklyn
Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater, Manhattan
Old Stone House, Brooklyn
Merchant’s House Museum, Manhattan
Family Fun

Gingerbread Adventures: Hands-on activities for kids, including decorating gingersnap cookies; discovering the Earthly treasures of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves; and creating a field notebook in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden

The Little Engine That Could™: Puppet theater presentations in the Arthur and Janet Ross Lecture Hall

Thomas the Tank Engine™: An opportunity to meet and take pictures with the popular Thomas on the Garden grounds, January 3–11

OMG!!! Ryan will LOVE this, especially the days with Thomas which I have to go to.

It may be the strong drugs I am on, but I cant find anything about Thomas on the website? Is it there and I just need to look later?

Also if you dont mind me asking, how much was the membership?

Re: Holiday Train Show/Gingerbread Adventure - 11/18/06-1/7/07

I just wanted to publicly thank Nthshrgrl. I saved this post in my notebook when she posted it last year. We took DS to the train show this year today. It runs until next weekend. It was phenominal. The person playing Sir Thopham Hat was great. They let you sit on an actual life size Thomas replica. The lines are long. We had 11 am tix for the train show and were done with the train show at 11:55. The homes are out of this world. DS loved it. We took my parents, DH, DS and I - and everyone really enjoyed the show. The wait to see Thomas and Sir Thopham Hat was about 1 1/2 hours. You get to take photos with both characters. They are giving out for free Thomas, Harold and Harvey temp tatoos, coloring pages of some of the engines, a certificate that the child is an honorary engineer, a paper conductor's hat and Thomas stickers. Check to see if you have a corporate membership through your employer. With that you get free parking, 10% off the gift shop and dining. You also get free tickets. You need a code from your employer to get the tickets. You have to bring your corporation id badge and the person who works for the company.
