9 month & falling asleep in crib ?

OK I have posted about this in the past but now DD is 9 months and I don't necessarily have to always rock her to sleep but rather I have been putting her awake in the cribbut I stay in the room w/her until she falls asleep, I sing to her or pat her back, etc....(unless she falls asleep in the car & I transfer her or falls asleep drinking her baba)....I just can't do the ferber or CIO....I feel sooooo guilty....advice please????

Re: 9 month & falling asleep in crib ?

One of my friends who could not do any kind of CIO eventually did at 1 year but she did it differently - she'd sit on a chair and first stop rubbing her DS, then move the chair away further, then a bit further, then on the other end of the room, then outside the door with it open, etc. - she'd stay in the chair until her DS fell asleep. I think there was crying involved, but if your DD is used to you being there, maybe you could try some version of this and she may not cry much if she sees you. So, the first night, be right next to her, touching her and singing, then move a little away and only sing to her, etc.

I'm a big wimp too and we had to do our own half-hearted version of CIO for a couple of nights - basically let her cry until I couldn't take it anymore, which was not long, then go in and give a paci, rub her back, etc., but this would go on for a LONG time, so one night, my DH and I really tried to do extinction, caved about 13 minutes in, but that was the longest we had ever gone, replaced the paci, and she was basically sleep-trained - she's never cried or fussed for more than a minute or two, if that, since then (this was just a few nights ago). I'm not sure this will work for anyone else - DD's always been an amazing sleeper and we only started doing this recently when she started having trouble going to sleep and nightwaking again - we never really had to do anything before this, we had a bedtime routine and would rock her until really drowsy, put her down, and she STTN. For our DD, it seems like the threat of CIO did the job, lol. Good thing because those were the longest 13 minutes of my life!

Wow...yeah I was putting her in the crib and staying in the room w/ her until she falls asleep but the thing is that she sleeps sleepy, I put her in the crib and she starts to walk around, seems so awake....I don't think I could ever ferber or CIO but the whole slowly move further away, etc...If I put her in the crib very very tired but still awake I can pat her back until she falls asleep and that works....if very very tired usually just 15 minutes....I am going to try this all week and no rocking to sleep..thanks...I just feel very guilty letting her CIO or Ferber...
