CPSE question
This may be a stupid question so I apologize in advance
DS is diagnosed with autism and is currently enrolled in a full day program at a center based preschool. He will be 4 in October.
When is the next CPSE meeting and do I have to schedule it or will I be contacted?
I want DS to continue at the school for the summer and fall. Will he be enrolled for the summer automatically and then I need a meeting for the fall semester?
I remember a meeting in June for the transition and he was transitioned out of EI early in order to get the full day program.
What's the next step?

CPSE question
You should be getting a letter from the district about his annual review. Once they are in preschool, you meet once a year - generally in the spring to go over progress and they determine what services he will get for next year. A year from now, you will have a transition meeting for Kindergarten. Some districts do 2 separate meetings, one CPSE meeting to determine summer services before K, and a CSE meeting to determine services for the Kindergarten school year. My district and other combine these into one meeting. Again, they generally do this meeting in the spring.

Re: CPSE question
My boys will be 4 in August and are also in a full day CPSE preschool.
Our CPSE meeting is the end of this month, which I believe will determine both summer services for this summer and placement for September.
We were supposed to get a letter from the district but it hasn't arrived yet - I heard of the dates from their teachers and called the district to confirm.
Summer services are NOT guaranteed. Your child needs to show "regression" after school vacations - skills they had before that they temporarily "lost" - in order for most districts to pay for summer services. Summer is for maintaining skills not for learning new skills, and regression proves that they will lose what they've learned without consistent services. The likelyhood of not getting summer services with a dx of ASD is slim, but something to keep in mind. Speak to the school to ask if they've been keeping data to prove this for you.

Re: CPSE question
You will have an annual review before the one year mark of his IEP.

CPSE question
We just had our annual review. We started with CPSE in September and they did the review in March. We also spoke of (and got approved for) summer services at that time and had some additional services approved. The SD set up the review automatically, I did not have to call.
