8 months old and still not baptised
Is this horrible? I can't figure out when to do it...we aren't members of the parish in our area so we still have to do that. My DH's parents are in Texas and want to come so would need to think about that. We have a tiny budget and alot of family so that's another hurdle.. I dunno... I guess I feel guilty and my mom keeps telling me there is no way I am finding a Christening gown that will fit my DD since they are all made for young babies? Have no one selected for godparents either as it will potentially start a war. I wish it could be just DH, me and our DD and that would be it.

Re: 8 months old and still not baptised
My DD is 2yo and not Baptized yet. Our family lives OOS and we haven't been able to set a date so that everyone (everyone meaning just immediate family + Godparents) can attend. We've tried and tried. I'm hoping we can do it this Summer and have a joint Baptism with my 3yo niece.
There are dresses for older babies and toddlers available. I've had my eye on a dress at OneSmallChild.com for a while and I need to get her Baptized before she grows out of 4T, because that's the size it goes up to!

Don't worry! You'll definitely be able to find a dress for her! My mother didn't baptize me until I was 9 months old ~ Maybe you can do a small brunch for immediate family to keep it inexpensive?

traditionally yes a baby should be baptised by then.
I know my Aunt baptised all my cousins at over a year though.
I wouldn't worry so much about the logistics and just get it done, but thats me.

Re: 8 months old and still not baptised
I wouldn't say it was horrible. Here's is what you do. Call the local church see when they baptise. (some only do it once a month) Go with the next date. Call the inlaws & tell them. You do not need it to be a big lavish affair. You could do a brunch with some close relatives. AS for Godparents go with the man & woman that seem closest to your daughter. This really shouldn't be a stress out time. And if people get upset tough! Your child your decision.
I'm sure you can find a dress for your baby. It might not be a gown but, you can find a pretty white dress.
Give yourself a time limit. Just say she will be baptised before she's 10 months old. Cause then you are going to start stressing over her birthday.
Hope this helps

SAME HERE!!! My DD is 28 mo. ---not baptized, yet! We moved to NC from NY and have NO ONE here. It's been one thing after another and I can't seem to get it together. I feel terrible about it ad my mom is nagging me constantly. I hope to do it this summer. Also, I feel bad inconveniencing everyone. That's why I need to move back home to NY!

I would not worry ~ you will definately find a baptism dress ~ I bought the dress for my goddaughter and she was almost a year old. To make it cheaper try to have immediate family parents, siblings, godparents (when you decide) Remember you will not & cannot make everyooooooone happy all the time.
Good Luck!

I don't think it's a big deal. As far as the gown......when I found Emerson's gown at Little Dickens they had gowns in much bigger sizes so I don't think you will have a problem finding something. I agree with other posters, keep it small. Do a brunch or just take the grandparents out for lunch or dinner after the church. Just pick a date and start getting things together...it will make you feel better about everything if you know you have gotten things started.

perfectly said ~ I would give yourself a goal ~ to have it done by such and such time ~ dont drive yourself crazy ~ then you will be stressing over the 1st birthday!

Re: 8 months old and still not baptised
ur not alone, my DD is also 8 months old and not baptised. the problem we are having is that we dont have any close female family members to be the god mother. we are actually considering my grandmother but im not sure if that is ok, since she is 75 years old and stuff like that.

Re: 8 months old and still not baptised
DD was baptized at 8.5 months, so you are just fine.
As far as finding a dress-most run up to 2t at least. I found a gorgeous christening dress for DD without any trouble.
Go visit your church, they are usually eager for new parishioners and the Baptism of a child is a very popular reason for families to join a church so you won't be heading into uncharted territory.
As for the cost-can you check with the church to see if they have a room you can use? It's generally pretty inexpensive to do something that way. Or, can you do something simple back at your home?

Re: 8 months old and still not baptised
My sister wasn't baptized until 2 weeks before her Holy Communion. She wore the same dress!
You do it, when you can do it! You can also baptize her in private with just a priest. I have seen this done. Godparents are symbolic but not necessary.
Contact your local church or ask for suggestions here about a parish. If you are willing to go to Brooklyn, I know a great priest!
