8 months and no teeth??

It seems like DS has been teething since he was about 4-5 months. However, he turned 8 months yesterday and he has still not cut a tooth??

Should I be concerned? Is that normal???

Re: 8 months and no teeth??

We're going on 10.5 months without any sign of teeth. I feel like she started "teething" at around 6 months (drooling and gumming) not nothing yet. I'm not too worried about it yet.

Don't worry...my DD too started teething around 3.5 months w/ drooling & putting everything in her mouth....yet she just cut her first tooth a week or so ago at 9 months. Now she has 2.

DD started teething at 2 months... and didn't get her first tooth until 15 months old ! I asked a pediatric dentist friend and he said that some kids just get their teeth late. It just means that they will probably lose their baby teeth later as well( like 8 y.o instead of 5)

Caden will be 8 months on the 20th and he still has the ol' toothless grin..

My eldest didnt but her first tooth until she was 11+ months...

Some babies just get their teeth later than others..

There's nothing to worry about.

Re: 8 months and no teeth??

DS is 7.5mos and just started getting teeth -two in the past two weeks! That said - he has been showing teething signs since he was 10 wks old - not sure if he was actually teething then though

ETA: My mom said i didn't get a tooth until 11 mos.

This was Ava, except she started teething at 3 months. I'll never forget when she got her first tooth. I was shopping in K-Mart for a lamp shade, of all things, and as she flashed me a gummy smile, there was one stop that wasn't so gummy anymore! She was 8.5 months. Many kids don't get teeth until their one year birthday.

Re: 8 months and no teeth??

DD is 7.5 months and no sign of teeth here either. Yesterday, Dr. said it's not an issue. I'm fine with it as I'm still nursing. Chat Icon

I read recently that excessive drool especially prior to 6 months is more the saliva glands working better and the baby not being able to keep up as they swallow and not as much from teething as once was thought.

Normal! There seems to be no rhyme or reason when it comes to teeth I have learned.

My first son at teethed forever and no teeth until 13.5 months old. I remember at his 6 mo dr visit even the ped was like look at all those teeth coming in and still took forever. Slow painful process.

The baby just cut his 1st tooth this week. He has been teething for a bit but I figured he'd be a late teether too but totally average - he is 8 months.

I think average is 6-9 mos for first tooth and a late teether is considered after 18 mos (but I say more like after a year).

No worries. My niece is 15 mos and she did not cut her 1st tooth until she was 13 mos! She now has 3 teeth coming in at a snails pace!

DD got her first tooth at 11 months and her second is slowly coming in and she's a year old. DS got his first at 10 months. Funny thing is..when DD was eating her hands ALL the time at 3 months, everyone said she was teething Chat Icon

Re: 8 months and no teeth??

Lily is 10 months and still no teeth! It looks like she has a few waiting in her bottom gum, but they're happy in there!
Something to also keep in mind is that many of the behaviors that make it seem like they are teething (drooling, eating everythig, etc.) are actually just developmentally appropriate behaviors for that age.
My doctor once told me the only clear sign of teething is little white things poking out of their gums. Chat Icon
