dr dean
im looking to find an obgyn that delivers with s nassau or nsuh manhasset.. so, i actually just called to schedule an appointment with dr dean because i heard good things about him, and i think i heard hes the head of obgyn? but anyways, i couldnt believe the way i was spoken to; that i actually hung up on the woman and im still in shock... i asked if i could schedule a new patient appt to see him and she asked how far along i was. i said im not pregnant yet, i just wanted to schedule a consult, and asked he is an ob GYN, right? so she said oh, youre not pregnant?? i said no. she says yes he is but he usually just sees prenatal patients. i said oh, ok, i never heard that, so is he accepting new patients or no? so she says yes, but why dr dean? im like because i heard good things about him! is that ok!? she says well , yes, we just have 4 drs here so i didnt know why him. where do you live? i said in massapequa why? (i should have hung up already and not bothered, but i just wanted to know where she was getting with this). so she says oh ok thats good youre close to office then...?? so she says let me get you his private number for his office, because i guess what i got from it was this was the hospital office? when she put me on hold, i hung up. i was baffled and so annoyed!! thats very suspicious in my eyes and none of her business to give me the third degree when making a new patient appointment. needless to say, i will not be going there. i still dont even get it????

Re: dr dean
He is not my dr but I delivered at South Nassau and my last day there in the hospital my dr was on vacation and he came in to discharge me. I was not happy with him at all. I mentioned that my BP was high all morning...he started screaming at the nurses down the hall. I felt so bad when they came in the room it seemed like they where scared of him. He was sooo rude to them for what seamed like no reason. I said sorry to nurse they where so amazing while I was there and keeped up with watching my BP all morning that I could not understand why he was so rude to them. He had delivered a friends baby at Winthrop about 7 years ago and she loved him. But my one run in with him was far from nice.

Re: dr dean
when i searched him on healthgrades or whatever to get his number, it showed he had two offices. one in garden city and one at s nassau in oceanside. so i called oceanside thinking this was closer for me. this is the number that i called and the lady spoke to me like that so im assuming it was the hospital but either way it just doesnt make sense why i would get the third degree and why she asked me a thousand questions like that it was just weird to me. now i dont even want to see him, so he lost a patient because of his receptionist or whoever she was...

Wow. He is my dr. Delivered DS and other people I know use him and haven't had any issues. I am very happy with him. When I heard you say you were told there are 4 other drs there I was because he is the only dr (with an NP). You must have called some other line.
For the PP I'm assuming he probably could have reacted better, but maybe they should have been watching you closer? Everyone has an off day!
He also delivered my DS. I have nothing but good things to say about him. I like him more then my regular OB... He was a live saver... I had to have an emergency c-section and he did an awesome job. No complications and an awesome recovery

Re: dr dean
I have no idea about an office in oceanside, I see him at the garden city office and it's only him and the np there. I have never had a problem with him at all. And the staff there are all amazing. I would definitely call there and still see him, he really is great. He delivered my son and was so wonderful during my 48hour induction. As far as him yelling at the nurses, well if your bp was high and he was never informed or no other dr was informed then they dropped the ball and while he could have approached it another way there's no way to know if maybe that wasn't the first time something like that had happened. So perhaps he had just reached a breaking point that day. Or like others said maybe he was just having a bad day. Either way I wouldn't let the rude lady at the oceanside office deter you, give the garden city a call.

He could have had a bad day. But since its my only interaction with him that's all I know. I do know people who go to him and love him.

Re: dr dean
Just my opinion: I go to dr dean and love him. He's been so great through the whole pregnancy -- approachable, reasonable, friendly,, funny, etc. The office is super nice too. I feel very comfortable with him as my doc and know I'm in good hands when I deliver in May!
