NPR anyone ever have a myomectomy
I have a fibroid that is causing some trouble and since I want another dc my dr advised I have a myomectomy with the divinci robot. Its non invasive and most times its an inpatient procedure. I will also have a d & c to clean out any scar tissue I may have gotten from my csection last year. I am a little nervous for the anesthisia (sp) and am worried about recovery and if I can go back to work 3 days later. Any personal experiences would be appreciated

Re: NPR anyone ever have a myomectomy
I had a myomectomy. My largest fibroid was on the outside of my uterus. I needed to have a very invasive surgery with an incision. They removed the fibroid and another on grew back almost immediately. The one thing I have learned is fibroids exist on blood. Once you remove one, another on can grow. Do you know if you only have one or many small ones? The second time I was going to get surgery they suggested the robotic one. I decided against it and had a hysterectomy instead. My issues were more severe than most. I have heard of many success stories so I wish you luck.

Re: NPR anyone ever have a myomectomy
I had a myomectomy in 2003. I can probably answer some questions as I did a lot of research. They really were not doing them robotically then but I will tell you to make sure you are really a candidate for a minimally invasive procedure. Mine started out as a laparoscopic procedure but had to be converted to an open abdominal procedure. The conversation made for a very long healing period but with open surgery they can get to everything. I should not have feared the open procedure as much as I did. I had 2-3 very large fibroids and some that were tiny. They also found some endometriosis.
Are they saying that you will have a D&C at the same time as the surgery?

Re: NPR anyone ever have a myomectomy
I have 1 fibroid. Its been causes issues since I was pregnant with dd. I want another child so this whole thing makes me nervous. I think I may wait until the summer when I am off because I can't take a week or more off of work. The thing that stinks is that if I don't have the procedure I am nervous the fibroid would either preven me from getting pregnant or cause too many complications during pregnancy. But if I do have the procedure I have to wait 6 months to try and get pregnant and I heard it could possibly do damge to your uterine wall which would make pregnancy difficult. I feel like I am in a lose lose situation. Plus I am petrifies of anesthesia :(

NPR anyone ever have a myomectomy
I'm not familiar with the differences between robotic and "regular" myomectomies, but I had a myomectomy 2 years ago to remove a 9 cm fibroid. The surgery went well, but there is no way you'd be back to work in 3 days. At least for a regular myo, it's a 6-week recovery period where you're not supposed to lift anything or even bend over. I walked like an old lady for weeks, hunched over. I was not in pain, but was very delicate/tender feeling. Very glad I did it, though! The fibroid eventually caused a lot of symptoms for me (including closing off my bladder). Happy to be rid of it!
I'm also petrified of anesthesia, but in this case, it was no big deal at all. I recommend Winthrop Hospital-- they're known for having very good anesthesiologists and nurses.
