Movies?
Sometimes going into the city is a great thing to do on a long weekend.. all the Manhattanites have escaped to the Hamptons, so the city is usually dead!

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is great. You can also go to the Cloisters (190th street & Broadway) for the same admission price as the Met. The cloisters are beautiful and so peaceful, like you're not even in New York City.
The Museum of Natural Hisory is always fun. Plus they have the Planetarium there too.
Anywhere in the city should be great on a holiday weekend, like Felica said.
