I check out the background a lot but it's not to get a better idea of someone. It's just habit from evaluating photos for journal ads, etc.

Like when the post pics of themselves in their houses?
Yes, I tend to look at the decor around them.
Sometimes it DEFINITELY tells you more about that person.
