Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

Coming from a former Pre-K teacher, I would always write the parents a thank you or definitely made sure I thanked them in person...but I've usually done both Chat Icon

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

I received thank you notes in the mail from my older child's teachers. We gave gifts to the specials teachers, etc. and got a thank you card from each.

At pre-school, we gave a gift to each the teacher and to the assistant (not a class gift). We received a typed note in our cubbies (same one to everyone) saying thank you, with both of their names typed on the bottom.

Last year in nursery school we gave individual gifts to the teacher/assistant, and one platter to the facility. No thank you from any of them.

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

Her teacher never even acknowledged it not verbally or written note.

The assistant sent me a thank you note, With AJ's name and a short note thanking us specifically for the ornament and chocolates as well as saying she'll use the container it came in. So it was personal and specific.

The after school teacher thanked me personally, when we picked her up that day.

I got a gift for the old teacher AJ had (a bottle of wine) she went out of her way to wait for me one morning, pull me aside to thank me specifically. That was about 3 weeks later when AJ came back to school

The director thanked me then (if that counts)

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

I put together 3 baskets for 3 daycare teachers..jacks main teacher he had all year before moving to 2's; and the 2 girls in 2's room. I also gave all 3 of them something for thanksgiving..just some chocolates.

Not one card, not even a "hey thanks" when they see me picking up jack.

I gave each 25.00 gift cards to target with lotions, stationery, etc. in a little basket. I have to say I was a little annoyed that not one of them said thanks.

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

I got thank you notes from the two teachers in my DS's class, but not from any of the other 5 teachers in the school that received gifts from us.

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

Yes, I did. One set of teachers wrote a thank you and both of them signed it. The other two teachers each sent their own individual thank you notes. I made a point of writing individual notes with specific comments about each of the teachers and how they positively impact my kids. I got very heartfelt notes in return.

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

Thanks for all of the replies. I sent in 5 gifts all together. For his 2 aides and his bus driver I sent in $10 GC to Starbucks. I received a thank you note from all three.

For his 2 main teachers, I sent them both a $25 GC to Target. I got no response from either of them, no note, no email not even a verbal thank you when I went up for lunch the other day. I am surprised and it leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. Common courtesy....I sure hope they are teaching the kids to say thank you in class. Chat Icon

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

I sent out thank yous to kids who even gave me a candy cane or even a card! I wish I could write them all (about 467) of them a general thank you for being so awesome.

IMO there is NO excuse for not giving one. As a parent of 3 in 3 different schools I KNOW how hard it is not only financially but with your time to get gifts for everyone. Especially specials teachers and office staff etc, so if Im even remembered I think its awesome.

thanks for reminding me! I owe some thank you notes myselfChat Icon I will do over the weekend.
My DD and DS teachers never verbally thanked me either! I don't expect a note but a quick, hey thanks when I pick up the kids is in order at the very least!

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

Some yes, some no. We also got a group thank you letter from the faculty. It irks me the ones that don't send thank yous b/c I just want to make sure they got it and are using it - b/c the gift giving can some times get chaotic.

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

$75 GC, no thank you. Not even in person. I'm a little disappointed but didn't really expect one. I gave the gift to give it and show my appreciation. She works hard everyday and that's MY thank you to her.

Re: If you bought Teacher gifts for Christmas...

I am a teacher for HS and any student/family that gave me a present(no matter how big or small) was either handed a handwritten thank you or I mailed the thank you to their house to thank them and their families and wish them a happy new year. It depended if I was able to get their address off the computer by the end of the last day before break.

I have always done that.
