6week old and gas

Hi ladies....seems like my 6 week old is very gassy and whimpers while trying to pass gas. He has no bowel movement for 3 days until I stimulate and take a rectal temp. His stool then comes out dark/green; soft. So far he has had 2 cycles of this but I do not want to keep taking a rectal. Any input? Should I be calling the ped? TIA.

Is he breastfed or formula fed? The reason I ask is cause I heard formula fed babies (esp. in the beginning) can go longer without pooping. With that said 3 days is the limit according to my daughters pediatrician. After 3 days he said to call him asap.

For the gas, I found that the best thing, more than mylicon (infant gas drops) is just bicycling her legs and gently pushing them into her stomach and release, and repeat. I would get a lot of gas out of her that way.

if he's bottle fed, trying switching to a faster flow nipple. that's what did the trick for DS when he was 3wks old and sooooo gassy.

i always gave my little guy camomile(sp) tea (straight from the mountains), with a little sugar... i wasnt into it at first, but its an old greek thing, and it really worked
