Any vegans out there?
I just watched Forks over Knives and have decided to make the transition to vegan. I am almost there, I haven't eaten any dairy (hidden or obvious) in 15 months and I eat red meat about once a week. Occassionally I will eat shellfish (maybe once every 2 months). This should be a pretty easy transition for me and DS because we prefer plant based foods over meat anyways.
The only problem I forsee is not being able to eat soy or nuts because of DS's allergies (he's 16 months and I'm still BFing). I'm thinking of bringing him back to the allergist so we can do a food challenge and see if he's outgrown these allergies.
Also, we're TTC #2 right now and I was wondering if there are any vegans that have gone through pregnancy?
I would love any tips or advice!
ETA: I would also love to know how it is eating out. It's pretty difficult eating out now with all of DS's allergies, but I've always been able to fall back on steak with steamed veggies. What do you do when you go to let's say a steakhouse or seafood restaurant with a bunch of family or friends? Eat salad and then eat again when you go home?

My sister is vegan and has been for a few years now. The most important thing is to make sure you pair foods properly to get proper protein. Obviously peanut butter is a complete protein, but other than that it's difficult - certain beans with soys are really the only other complete proteins. Cheese/Diary is a no-no on vegan diets so it makes it very difficult. As far as being pg and/or bfing, I would consult a nutritionist because you are going to have to monitor what you eat.

Thanks for the response!
DS is allergic to peanuts too, but it's not a complete protein anyways. I know if it's paired with wheat bread it is though. I've been looking into it for the last hour and pretty much most of the meals I eat (except breakfast) are made up of complete proteins.

I have been a vegan for almost 6 months due to allergies. I take B12 everyday to make sure I get all my nutrients. I combine beans with complex carbs to get the right amount.
I read articles on the kindlife.com about TTC while being vegan. If there is anything I can help you with please let me know.

Re: Any vegans out there?
Congrats! Im not vegan (yet) but getting there little by little. I'm not ttc so cant help you there, but as far as eating out yes, its difficult. I eat salads sometimes with fish or shrimp. Even a pear salad has cheese on it, so you can always ask for no cheese. Pasta also usually has cheese.
Dh actually quoted a study from that movie to me today, so i know he was paying attention yay! But he's not even close to giving up meat, but i keep hoping he'll just want to change after getting more info on having a healthier lifestyle.
All the best in your endeavor!
