NPR: NY Certificate of Still Birth
I received the email at the bottom of this post, and thought I would share this here incase anyone knows of someone who would like to support this cause.
When we lost Sarah, we never received any kind of documentation from the state regarding her life or death. Even though we have no official piece of paper, it doesn't make her any less real to us. The bill that they are trying to have pass will provide those parents who go through a stillbirth with a certificate to signify the life of their child. If you have a free minute, please read the below.

"Five years of phone calls, emails, letters, and meetings. All of your efforts, comes down to a final decision being made by ONE person. We will know on Friday, the 23rd, if the Certificate of Still Birth becomes a law. We have been in regular communication with Gov. Cuomo's office and they have been very honest about the fact that this could still go either way, signature or veto. Although the remaining concerns are minor, there is just no way to tell how this will end. The more support he sees for our legislation, the smaller those remaining concerns become. Whether you live in NY or not, you can show your support of the Certificate of Still Birth bill by emailing the below. Your decision to support this bill will go a long way toward raising awareness, helping families, and eventually saving lives. Help us by forwarding this email to your family & friends.

Do you know what the holdback or concerns are? For some reason, I thought that a child born after 20 weeks would get a birth certificate even if they were stillborn (since after 20 weeks I believe you are permitted to have funeral or cremation services for your baby). My SIL's baby came before 20 weeks and she was not able to do anything.

To be completely honest, I don't know what the reasons are, and have wondered myself.
And I am surprised to hear that your SIL was not able to do anything, as I know of quite a few families that had their babies born before 20 weeks who were able to. I'm so sorry that she had to go through that...

I know - it wasn't something that I had really thought about at the time, as there were just so many other things going through my head. But afterwards, I just couldn't wrap my head around it all...I mean, yes, my daughter was never able to take a breath here, but, that doesn't mean she didn't exist...it's all very sad. And just another thing that people who go through this shouldn't have to sit and think about.

I think that parents who have/are going through this should never have to worry about this! There should definitely be a Certificate of Still Birth if they do not get a Certificate of Birth (I thought there are some that say "Certificate of Live Birth" in which case a stillborn child would not be able to get one, but I thought some said "Certificate of Birth" but maybe I'm wrong there!).

My 1st child came after 20 weeks, and I did not get a birth certificate.
Just sent the email.

Me too. My friend just lost her baby slightly before 20 weeks..regardless of when the loss occurred, I think the parents should definitely be able to have a record of their child. I hope it gets passed.
