How many do you need?

I feel like I registered for a ton of sheets, burping pads, covers for the changing pad, etc. How many (if any) do you think we really need of the following:

crib sheets
pack n play sheets
changing cover pads
changing cover pads (pack n play)
burp clothes
mattress covers
waterproof lap pads
waterproof crib pads
sheet savers
receiving blankets

Thanks!!

Re: How many do you need?

This is what we have:

crib sheets i think 8 between the 2 kids.
pack n play sheets 3
changing cover pads 4
changing cover pads (pack n play) none, i just lay a receiving blanket on it.
burp clothes i have about 2 dozen cloth diapers, my kids are messy eaters when they are very young and we go through them fast, same with bibs
mattress covers 4
waterproof lap pads we have them, never used them
waterproof crib pads we have about 10 of these to use in the 2 cribs and the pack n play
sheet savers none
receiving blankets a lot, some are flannel, some cotton. we got quite a few as part of gifts.

Re: How many do you need?

I can tell you what I've needed so far...hope it helps:

crib sheets - I have 6 or 7 sheets which is great because I have to have 2 sheets at daycare for Katie's crib and then the rest for me at home.

pack n play sheets - I go through these a lot since she is napping in her pack n play. I have 2 sheets...I wish I had another 1 or 2

changing cover pads - I have two and that's been good so far, but one more would be nice - but at least 2 is a must

changing cover pads (pack n play) - I dont use the changing table on my pack n play

burp clothes - the more the better! I have about 8 or 9 "pretty" burp clothes and then I also registered for a pack of 12 white cloth diapers which I use as burp cloths and let me tell you...they are great!! I use 1 or 2 each day, I love them.

mattress covers - I have 2 waterproof covers and then bought a pack of 3 smaller waterproof pads for the changing table and/or pack n play

waterproof lap pads...see able - I have one pack of 3 pads and its been great so far

waterproof crib pads - see above

sheet savers - I dont have any of these

receiving blankets - a lot of them...probably about 15-20. I use them a lot, especially when it was cooler in the spring and we'd take her in the car or for walks. I also use them on her when she naps because its cool in the house with the a/c on. I have some at daycare for her too and I always keep one in her diaper bags - its great when you go to the peds office and you have to undress them ...I wrap her in the blanket and hold her until the ped is ready to examine her

Hope this helps!Chat Icon

ETA: also wanted to add...BIBS...I didn't register for any but I was given TONS as gifts...I literally have about 40 bibs LOL Some I dont like, some I do. I love the ones with the rubber back because then her clothes dont get wet when the bottle drips or if she drewls on them...and we go through a couple of bibs a day plus some are at daycare...you can never have enough bibs!

Re: How many do you need?

wow! Mrs J pretty much handled everything I have to say! we have about the same amount of everything that she said and for the same reasons.

I have 2 changing pad covers for the changing table also - but 3 would be better.

I do have 2 sheet savers that I use also. 2 is enough. 3 would be nice.

hope this helps!

Re: How many do you need?

I found this list online. It lists the amount for some items. Hope it's helpful.

New baby basics
A master list for new moms and dads

Here's a checklist of what you should have on hand before your baby arrives.

Tooling around
_____Car seat.
_____Stroller.

Beds and linens
_____Crib.
_____Crib mattress.
_____Bassinet/cradle (if you don't want to put your baby in a crib right away).
_____Two to three fitted crib sheets.
_____Four or more waffle-weave cotton receiving blankets for swaddling baby
_____Two mattress pads.
_____One to two waterproof liners (for crib or bassinet).

Diaper duty
_____Diapers. Disposable or cloth.
_____Diaper pail. (Optional with disposables.)
_____Diaper bag.

Dressing baby
_____Four sleeping outfits or onesies (one-piece sleepers), preferably with attached feet
_____Six side-snap T-shirts.
_____Four to six one-piece undershirts that snap around the crotch.
_____A small baby cap (although the hospital will probably give you one).
_____Six pairs socks/booties.
_____Two to three soft, comfortable daytime outfits. Get only a few items in newborn size. Then, go for clothing in the 6-month size--your baby will grow into it quickly. But don't buy baby sleepwear that's too big; it's a fire hazard
_____Cotton sweater or light jacket.

Summer babies
_____Brimmed hat.

Winter babies
_____Snowsuit or heavy bunting.
_____Heavy stroller blanket.
_____Warm knit hat.

Feeding time
If you're planning to breast-feed:
_____Two or three nursing bras.
_____A box of washable or disposable breast pads.
_____Breast pump if you expect to use one.
_____Four small baby bottles with newborn nipples for expressed breast milk
_____Bottle drying tree.
_____Bottle brush.
_____Insulated bottle holder for diaper bag (the hospital may give you one).
_____Three packs of cloth diapers or burp cloths.

If you're planning to bottle-feed
_____Six 4- to 5-ounce bottles, plus nipples, rings, and a dishwasher basket if you use a dishwasher.

Bathing/grooming
_____Three soft hooded towels.
_____Two packs of baby washcloths.
_____ Baby body wash that doubles as shampoo.
_____Pair of blunt-tip scissors or baby-sized nail clippers.
_____Zinc-oxide-based diaper rash ointment.
_____Infant bathtub.
_____Soft brush and comb.
_____Mild laundry detergent.

Medicine chest essentials
_____A pain-and-fever reducer recommended by your baby's doctor, such as Infant's Tylenol.
_____Cotton pads/swabs.
_____Nasal aspirator.
_____Digital thermometer.
_____Rubbing alcohol.
_____Petroleum jelly.

Keeping baby happy
_____Pacifiers.

Extras: Nice but optional
_____Monitor.
_____Changing table.
_____A rocker or glider.
_____Soft carrier.
_____Swing.
