 time for a new pediatrician
so my daughter will start kindergarten in September so she stilled need another MMR vaccine from the Dr . we get there and he says she is due for 3 other vaccines and a physical so during the exam he just starts unbuttonning her pants without even telling her what he is doing and checks her genitalia(which he did when she was 2 1/2 and she was so upset then also) but she is 4 1/2 now and he should have told her what he was doing she looked at me terrified so I start telling her that its ok and he is a dr and he is just making sure everything is ok there etc
He is an older man and I think he just treats his patients as customers and not people

Re: time for a new pediatrician
that is so intrusive. I agree that you should switch. Even at 3 my pediatrician has me undress DS and he told him what he was going to do.

Re: time for a new pediatrician
My pediatrician or any of the nurses (or assistants) in the office, have never undressed any of my kids. I've always been instructed to undress them myself.

Re: time for a new pediatrician
Same here. My pediatrician also directs his conversations towards the kids, ie "I'm going to check in your ear now"...and that's since they were babies.

Re: time for a new pediatrician
OMG, how awful! Even now, with just a little baby, our pediatrician tells us to undress her and he looks at her as he's examining her and tells her exactly what she's doing (as if she understands... )

My ped does the same. The nurse always instructs me to undress Emma. I think it's a little too "personal" to have a doctor or nurse, undress my child.

I had a very old pediatrician that I actually used until I was 22 He had to tell me to not come back
anyway, he always, always, always, made sure I was comfortable about him examining me. Even when I was in my teens and twenties. Too bad I can't bring my children to him because now he retired
My point is that I was soooo comfortable with him as a child that I had a hard time seeing any other doctor. So, if your child is not comfortable around him, then you know it is definately time to change.

Re: time for a new pediatrician
I am so sorry you and your daughter had to go through that. It is completely not the way a doctor should handle his patients.

Re: time for a new pediatrician
This is awful. I am sorry but your daughter must have felt truly violated. I don't think I could have sat there while he did that. Why didn't the nurse ask you to have her ready for her exam and offer her a gown or something? That is just wrong IMO. I would find a new doctor, a female. And I would talk to my daughter about it if she seems upset at all after the visit.

I can't believe your daughter had to go through that and you had to witness it. How horrible! I'm sorry you had to go through that. Good luck finding a new pediatrician.
