My PCOS success story
I wanted to share my story with you ladies. I'm going to repost this on TTC as well. In September 2006 I was diagnosed with PCOS. This was after already having my daughter 2 years before. DH and I decided we wanted to TTC for number 2 but I had period problems. So after my doctor did some blood work I got the great results and was devastated. After a year of tracking my temp we were able to conceive my son and he was born in May 2008.
But that's not my success story. Many of you probably know that a side effect of PCOS is being overweight. As a young girl I was thin but as I got older I started adding on weight and after 2 pregnancies I was obese. In October 2009 I decided enough is enough. I joined weight watchers at work and have not looked back. I have since lost 82 pounds!!!! While I still have not hit my weight goal (I have 12 more to go) I have hit so many other goals along the way. I am fit and in shape. I am back to being athletic. I recently ran a 5K and completed it in a respectable time. But one of my biggest accomplishments came today. I went back to my OBGYN for my check up and she was very happy with my success. One of the things we talked about was my period and I was so happy to tell her that my irregular period where I use to be on a 35-60 day cycle is now a 28 day cycle. Due to my weight loss I have been able to get to a regular period. By doing so she told me that if we decide to TTC for number 3 it will be so much easier this time around.
I also want to mention that last year at my check up my doctor found a fibroid. This year at my check up she said that the fibroid is so small it's hardly noticeable. The fibroid will always be there but through my lifestyle changes of eating and exercising I have been able to reduce it to hardly even noticeable. So to all of you out there who struggle with PCOS, please consider losing weight. I had read for years that it would help but didn't do anything about it. I am living proof that it does make a difference. I'm not just a statistic that you read about, I am telling you this as someone you all "know". Losing weight can help you become regular which will then make it easier to get pregnant. I hope this message inspires one person. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions.

Re: My PCOS success story
Congratulations on your weight loss and for running a 5k!!
Unfortunately for me, losing weight did not make any difference with my cycles (or lack thereof). "they" say losing just 10% can make a huge difference and help get your body on track.
Again, congratulations, it's something to be extremely proud of

Re: My PCOS success story
Thank you for this. I have PCOS as well and although the getting pregnant part is tough, the weight loss battle is a struggle that has been a problem most of my life, and is even more of a problem after DD.
Success stories like this give me motivation.
Thank you! And good luck with the rest of your journey!

Re: My PCOS success story
Congrats!! That is great - losing weight for many with PCOS is very hard to impossible, especially b.c many have IR. You should feel very proud of your success. While I agree and applaud you for cheering others to lose weight to help with the PCOS, but unfortunately it isn't something that everyone can just "do" or choose to "do" as many with PCOS can't control their weight. I have a very similar story - but unfortunately even with exercise - gaining weight on both weight watchers and Jenny craig - between that and several nutritionists saying they can't help I would love to hear which weight watchers plan you did - as my doctors said it isn't the best one for those with PCOS - I would love to hear what worked for you.
