Chicago?
I'm dating my husband. We're meeting in Chicago for the weekend in late March. Any recommendations for things to see/do, places to stay, restaurants to go?

Re: Chicago?
I was only in Chicago once for a quick weekend - went for a wedding. Def try chicago pizza. its awesome - different from NY pizza, so you can't compare them to eachother.
I think this is where we went: http://www.giordanos.com/
I loved walking around chicago - its like a clean NY. The miracle mile has a lot of shopping. The navy Pier was cool to see.
This is all we pretty much had time for when we were there. Sorry I am not of more help!

Re: Chicago?
Navy Pier is amazing, the aquarium there is fantastic, as is the Natural History Museum (not sure if that's what it is called) right by the aquarium. The top of the old Sears Tower and the Hancock Building are both beautiful. There is an Italian restaurant in the theater district called wither The Villages or Three Villages. It is one building with three restaurants in it. We ate int he one on the main floor and loved it. Have a great time, Chicago is a great city!

Re: Chicago?
LOVE Chicago! My best friend moved there so I went to visit her a few times
Navy Pier rent bikes (they're all over the city and you can ride along Lake Michigan) go to the top of the Sears Tower (or whatever it's called now) go see the famous fountain in the park drinks at the top of Hancock Tower (you don't need to go to the restaurant for that) Famous 2nd City is there if you want to see some comedy Sooo many great restaurants it's hard to pick

Re: Chicago?
Chicago is one of my favorite cities! All I ever do is walk around and eat...I've never seen most of the big tourist attractions.
I'm going this summer and already have reservations at Stephanie Izard's (Top Chef winner) Girl and the Goat and at Rick Bayless's Tobolabampo.
Definitely try Chicago pizza if you haven't already. You only need a single slice. I'm a Gino's fan but DH prefers Lou Malnati's.
I always have to have Garrett's popcorn.

This is my kind of trip - eating my way through the city! Love the idea of hitting up the Top Chef restaurants. I'm going in only 2 weeks, so I'll have to see what I can get into. Thx!

Re: Chicago?
if money is no issue, charlie trotter's is amazing. reservations may be hard to get though on such short notice.
for sushi i like japonais or mirai sushi.
for indian there's devon street-we go to hema's kitchen.
for pizza hubby likes gino's east.
i think you have all the touristy spots listed already. you'll love it here! the city is so clean and lake michigan is beautiful. go to the area by the field museum, adler planetarium to take some skyline pics.

I love both of these places.... I often go to Cafe Iberico after work because it's closer to downtown and I think their sangria is a little better.
If you're looking for other good restaurants - * Mercadito or Naticionale 27 - Mexican/Latin * Chicago Cut - Steakhouse * Chicago Q - Upscale BBQ (but not froo-froo)
- Mag mile is good for shopping. - Millennium Park is great for a nice walk. The skating rink might still be open in 2 weeks - Navy Pier is great because you can get a good view of the skyline and lake - Museum of Science and Industry has some pretty cool exhibits and is a 15 min bus ride from downtown
have fun!

Re: Chicago?
LOVE Chicago - we are going in May.
I love having a drink at Top of the '**** (John Hancock Buliding). Go see The Bean. Loved the architectural boat tour. Walking tour of Wicker Park. Bus tour was fun too. Shopping on Michigan Ave. House of Blues for live music. Stayed one time at the Fairmont Hotel, and it was excellent. Also love Cafe Iberico.
Enjoy!

Re: Chicago?
we went in September to see concerts at Wrigley for a long wknd! we had blast! if you are looking to stay near Wrigley field (which you are probably not, but just in case) we actually stayed at the days inn on Divarsy and Clark. Great location, hotel was nice, clean, reasonable and 1 mile from the park, 2 blocks from the water, in the middle of some great shopping, but not in the heart of down town.
We were not fans of the deep dish pizza (but giordanni's is supposed to be the best, so we went there for it)... we should have gone for the chicago style hot dogs instead!
