natural vs. c-section experience?
hello ladies~ am reposting a ? from the TTC board....
i really want a natural birth but i hear that LIJ, northshore and many LI obs do more c-sections. has this been the case with you ladies? has anyone had an ob that really respected them having a natural birth plan?

I would think a c-section would only be done if for some reason labor wasn't progressing or you have a condition that would cause the Dr. to want to do one. In that case it would be planned all along.

that's what i though too. but then a friend of mine gave birth at Northshore LIJ wanting natural but her ob gave her a c section and didn't give her a chance to choose.

I doubt that - there must be more to the story. No one would just make you have a c-section without a very valid reason for doing so.

I agree - c sections are major surgery and most often the last resort.

Re: natural vs. c-section experience?
Unfortunately I think a lot of docs try to make woman have c/s at the last min for a number of reasons. For example, they can be out in 20 min rather than waiting hours for natural. I'm very worried about this and have already discussed it with my doc.

Re: natural vs. c-section experience?
I delivered at NSLIJ - Southside & went natural. I just let my Dr. know that was what I wanted & he said OK Unless there was a medical need for C-section.

This is what I plan on doing as well. I would definitely talk to your doctor about it and let them know what you want. A C-section should be the last resort and only for a medical need.

Re: natural vs. c-section experience?
I had a c-section i regret ever letting them talk me into it. I had 4th degree hemmroids and they said if i pushed it would make my recovery even worse so i went with the c-section and it almost killed me and on top of that i missed on the bonding with my DD. She was passed around after i had her and i didn't get to see her for the first hour and a half she was born and by the time she got to me she didn't want to BF, i think not being able to bond with her right after birth was the reason why she didn't BF well. I felt cheated and that will not happen with this baby, unless it is a medical necessity i will not be having a c-section this time.

Re: natural vs. c-section experience?
I know of 2 girls in LIJ that had natural births (epidural of course) and 1 in NSLIJ. I think at my next visit (16 weeks) I'm going to express to the doctor that I want this baby coming out of my who-ha Good Luck with all of you getting your natural births. I believe if the good lord wanted you to split at the gut and have a baby that way, we would have nice little zipper there. I understand there are emergencies, but stick to your guns ladies. We are strong! Enough with me and I'll get off my

Re: natural vs. c-section experience?
1 more natural at NS and she was over 40. Another friend of mine had a c-section at NS that was totally her choice.

Re: natural vs. c-section experience?
I delivered at LIJ. I wound up having a crash c, but until that happened I was supposed to go natural all the way. My OB suggested natural and only does c-sections if necessary. With my case it was.

Re: natural vs. c-section experience?
Part of the reason I think LIJ has a lot of c-sections is because it has a top notch NICU. Numbers can skew just because that fact alone.
