6 week old not napping during the day

My 6 week old DS does not like to take naps during the day. When he does, they are mostly 20-30 minute cat naps. He sleeps well at night only waking once to eat, then he goes right back down. Today he's been up since a little after 10am and hans't had a good block of sleep since!

Has anyone ever gone through this & found a solution?

my dd is the same way and she's 8 weeks. she only naps for about 10-20 mins at a time throughout the day. if she falls asleep in my arms, its barely enough time for me to put her down in her swing or pack 'n play and get some things done around the house. the only time she will nap for hours is if im out doing errands with her. like today she fell asleep in the car and was out for 3 hours while i shopped and had lunch with my SIL.

i dont know what to do either!

my dd is exactly the same.. she's going to be 9 weeks on tuesday. she takes 20-30 minute naps during the day.. and it started when she was 6weeks by the way.

My DD is the same way.
There really isn't a solution. I just let her be. But be glad she sleeps that much during the night. Right now DD wakes 3 to 4 times throughout the night... but starting at around 4 am (sometimes a little earlier sometimes a little after 4). so it's good your DS is sleeping through the night like that.

I find that many infants seem to stay awake throughout the day; just surviving on cat naps. It's quite common. I would rather that and have the baby sleep for a good length of time through the night over not sleeping during the night with loads of long naps during the day.

PS - My DD NEVER really slept in the beginning.. not during the day OR at night. She only took cat naps 24 hours a day!!!! I thought I was going to lose my mind! this went on from the hospital up until about 4 weeks when she started sleeping for 2 to 3 hours at a time during the night. then by 6 weeks it got even better. Now at 10 weeks she sleeps from 9pm to about 4 am then wakes up each hour until she's AWAKE for the day by 7 or 8 am.

At 6 weeks, my kids napes were AAAAAAAALLLLLL over the place. What i tried to stick with was putting them down no more than 2 hours after they woke. If they were up at 8, they were in their crib/sleeper/swing BY 10. Sometimes they slept, sometimes they didn't.

OVER TIME the time they slept grew longer and longer and more organized.

6 weeks already?! You're reaching the light Momma. 6 weeks was the turning point for all my babies.

DS 1 was like your DS. It lasted until about 6 months possibly less time. He was a cat napper and needed to be held for 30+ minutes before he could be put down. he would nap laying down 30 minutes at most. Needless to say, nothing got done in my house during this time. We spent a lot of time holding him. Now he's a completely different kid. He can nap some days for three hours straight. It worries me sometimes. This is why we arent getting rid of the monitor anytime soon.

If he's only getting up 1x a night you are doing well. Dd took cat naps till 6 months. 30 min every 90 min
