What would you put in a pinata for mainly 2-3 year olds? (second question added.)

Toys? Candy?

I'm really not looking to break the bank. DS loves lollipops, M and Ms and craisins. (I have found 100 calorie packs of craisins.) Is that stuff okay? Or should I try for toys? But I am thinking: What toys aren't too small for a toddler, but can fit in the hole of a pinata?

Any insight? TIA!!!!!

ETA: Should the pinata be the stuff to fill the favor bag? I was going to have a few bigger items in the favor bag, but add some of the stuff that you are all saying. Should I just put the few things in the bags, then let the kids add their own stuff from the pinata?

kel - i'd go to Star Trac in Farmingdale and see what you can find! it's like oriental trading but in a store/warehouse....

maybe you can get temporary tattoos, stickers...etc..

they sell in bulk - so you won't break the bank!

I don't use the pinata stuff (I did not do one this year BTW!!) to fill up their goody bag.

I did it in addition.

We went to a party that had a pull apart pinata. So every kid got a string and one of the strings opened the pinata, all of the others just tore off. It was cute because the kids were not strong enough to hit the pinata.

Inside they had:

magnetic alphabet letters
small plastic animals
lolly pops
m&ms
bead necklaces (think mardi gras)
stickers (they rolled a few together and tape it so that it has some weight.)

As far as filling:
tattoos
silly bandz
100 calorie packs of nabisco products (gold fish, oreos, etc)
canisters of mini M&Ms
dum dum lollipops

I would do a separate goody bag (you can even put the same kind of stuff in it...) so that the shy kids don't miss out on getting anything. I know how my son would be at a pinata and, especially if he hardly knew anyone, he wouldn't even go close to it. There will always be the few bigger, more aggressive kids who get all the stuff!

I like these ideas! I can tell you that DS wants to HIT THE CRAP out of the pinata though. He had a pinata to hit at his Great-Grandmother's 90th birthday a few weeks ago and LOVED it! I figured if the little kids can't break it open, we have some older kids to smash it. Or a few drunk adults. Chat Icon
