Baby shower/wishing well?
I'm planning my daughter's baby shower. I want to get the invites printed this week and I'm not sure about doing a wishing well.......Do people still use them? Are they necessary? I was talking to someone and she said you have to think, if people buy something for the wishing well, that's $ that might have been spent on a bigger gift. I don't know what to do. I haven't been to a baby shower in forever............

People do still use them. I had one at my bridal shower and my baby shower. I like them because you get little things you might not have otherwise gotten (books, baby spoons, wash clothes, etc). I don't think those things take away from the bigger gift. Not everyone opts to even get something for the wishing well.

Re: Baby shower/wishing well?
I was hoping we'd have a wishing well at my baby shower but I'm not sure how you word it on the invitation. I wanted like a "kitchen / bath" wishing well, so basically people who can't afford a larger present could still get us some really useful stuff like that.

Re: Baby shower/wishing well?
I think people usually just put "wishing well" somewhere on the bottom. My mom put "please bring an item for the wishing well".

had one at my shower, I don't think anything was over 5 dollars. That's what it's for, the lil things, but end up being the most useful. I think it's a fun thing.

Re: Baby shower/wishing well?
if you want to have a wishing well you just write "wishing well" somewhere on the invite
we had one at my sisters but we did the bookshelf wishing well their is a little poem that you attach to the invite that says something about give a book instead of a card to start the babies book collection it worked out great and my nephew has so many nice books now
there are a couple different poems out there if you google them i combined two for my sisters but here is some examples :
We can't wait to see you at the shower When (mom-to-be's name) will be the woman of the hour We have one request we hope isn't too hard Please sign your name to a book instead of a card Then mom and dad will be ready when the baby arrives To read to their darling for the rest of their lives
Although cards are nice They're read once or twice Maybe three or four times at best A book is a treasure Forever and Forever So instead of a card To be put aside Please give the little baby A book with your name inside It will be read to our little tyke Before bed each night And we will thank you Forever and Forever!

Re: Baby shower/wishing well?
We did a book wishing well at my sister's shower that was really cute. We did the poem on a separate piece of paper. Also, we had an optional diaper raffle - bring a pack of diapers and you were entered in a raffle to win a big basket full of outdoor tableware. It was a bit hit!

I would do a diaper raffle instead. people will get you those little wishing well stuff regardless.
My mom put a little note in the invite to bring a package of diapers to be entered in a raffle. When people gave her the diapers she gave them a ticket and and during the shower she pulled a ticket out and smoeone one a prize.
It was a great idea because I have packages upon packages of all different size diapers. Diapers are expensive and you go through them quickly!

This was done at my shower and I was forever grateful because I got TONS of diapers!!! Inside the invite there was a little card in the shape of a diaper that said Bring a package of diaper and be entered to win a prize!

Re: Baby shower/wishing well?
My mom did a "book club" for my baby shower instead of a wishing well, I can tell you, I was BEYOND THRILLED with all the books I got! It completely blew my mind, books from infant all the way up to like early elementary! I love it! And what was even more amazing, I didn't get one duplicate book...that was weird! LOL

Re: Baby shower/wishing well?
I didn't do a wishing well... and I've only ever seen 1 at a wedding shower 20 years ago.
I liked the book idea (a friend of mine did this instead of cards & I thought it was cute).
Personally, I had expressed interest in my favorite childhood books to my mom & she started me off with a "library." It was one of the most touching gifts I had received. Many of my childhood favorites were ruined in a flood & I think books are such an important part of childhood.
