Those with Elevated NK Cells
Dr. B called today. He said my immune workup came back with elevated NK (natural killer) cells. Its not really a shock, since its connected to PCOS and the blood clotting issue that I have (one may cause the other, or vice versa). Anyway, those of you that have this, I have several questions.
1. Was it treated with IVIG intralipids? If so how often? If not what other treatment did you receive? 2. If so what insurance do you have and was it covered? 3. If it wasn’t covered how much did it cost and where did you get it and who administered it? 4. Did you get pregnant and carry to term (or close) as a result of the treatment? if you are being treated for it, is it due to prior m/c or chemicals? 5. Any notable side effects?
Thanks. Although im not super surprised by this its yet another thing messed up with my body . But on a happier note at least it’s another treatable cause of my recurrent chemicals/ m/c. I go in to see Dr. B on Saturday so hopefully I can get started on my next cycle soon!!!

Re: Those with Elevated NK Cells
I guess it all depends on what it actually is? There's elevated overall NK cells, t-cells and others that just confuse me. He usually will start you on intralipid infusion. Its not painful. Some insurance covers it and others don't. Probably start out once a month, you'll get tested after transfer to see how the numbers are. And go from there.
Forgot to add that my insurance covered it. I used Advanced Care (I have Oxford Metro Freedom, basic IF coverage). I am sure without insurance it is around $500 (meds and nurse). But, you can get the meds yourself (with a script of course) and use a nurser to do the IV infusion. Ask Dr. B's office for recommendation. Might be $300.
Good luck.

thats pretty much exactly what he said. he just said elevated NK cells and that everything else in that part of the immune workup came back fine.

yes they told me around $350 for the nurse to come and do the infusion.

1. I did not do IVIG-I took prednisone, vitamin e, lovenox, baby asprin, metanx.
2. My insurance would not pay for it(BCBS) Thats why I didn't do it.
3. NA
4. I did IVF(i had one proven ectopic and 4 losses)
5. NA
Good luck. I took the prednisone to combat the NK's and high ANA. I had a perfect pregnancy but I did get preeclampsia at 33 weeks and delivered at 35.5 weeks. The clotting disorders can increase your risk of preeclampsia though...

do you have other known clotting or immune issues or recurrent m/c? thats what these drugs are for.
if you only need O induction you wont need these other meds unless you have other issues that are uncovered down the road. hopefully you don't/won't!!!

No clotting but i have had a few MC...
for me dr. b ran the thrombophilia (blood clotting) panel after my first chemical. he ran the immune panel after the second chemical. he said we didnt HAVE to do the immune one now but if there was an issue there that lead to another chemical or m/c, then we would def need to run it. so we didnt wait and we did it, which is what came back with the elevated NK cells.
if i remember correctly you see dr. b as well. i would def talk to him about this stuff. also note that not all insurance covers the testing - i had to pay $180 on the thrombophilia workup (everything but 1 test was covered), and a max of $450 on the immune workup (still waiting to see what the ins. company says on that one).
