lake ronkonkoma shooting...
this is horrible  and its sooo scary that we looked at a house on that block that we were actually going to put an offer on last year. THANK GOD WE DIDNT! the house was about 5 houses away from where it happened. I would be so scared espically with DD

(05/24/10) LAKE RONKONKOMA ? There is a developing story in Lake Ronkonkoma.
Police tell News 12 a man was shot on Beech Street near Stop & Shop on Portion Road while in a car early this morning.
Detectives say 51-year-old Raymond Hirt was a flagman at a road construction site and was waiting to go to work when a dark colored SUV pulled up and fired one shot. The shot hit the man in the cheek and head area.
Police say the man has succumbed to his injuries.
Officials are treating the case as a homicide.

A 51-year-old Mastic Beach man who was working as a flagman at a Lake Ronkonkoma construction site was fatally shot in his vehicle Monday morning, police said.
Raymond Hirt succumbed to his injuries - a single shot to the neck - at Stony Brook University Medical Center after the 7 a.m. shooting, police said.
Police said they have not identified a motive for the killing. The suspect fled in a dark sport utility vehicle, police said. The single shot that killed Hirt was fired out of the SUV, police said.
The shooting happened near a construction site across from the Lake Ronkonkoma Super Stop & Shop on Portion Road. Hirt was about to start his work day when the shooting occurred, police said.
Construction workers told Newsday they heard a gunshot, ran to the victim's car, pulled him from the vehicle, and attempted to help him.
Suffolk police notified Nassau County police that the alleged shooter might have fled westbound on the Long Island Expressway. Police in both counties said no one has been arrested in the incident.

its probably a random gang related killing. My friend who is a officer in that area was JUST saying last night how there has been an increase in MS13 gang violence in parks and such over there. This is why I dont go to Raynor Park or Kohls over there anymore.

There was some gang violence there no too long ago that started in the Kohls parking lot (there were like 6 gang members randomly jumping and mugging people leaving Kohls) and spilled over into the park (they were running from the cops) while my parents were there with my DS.

I don't know if it sounds like gang activity or more of "connection" activity. I'm sorry, but when you put the time of day, the shadiness of the situation, the occupation (construction), and the age of the victim, I can't help but think its more mafia or money sharking or something. Sorry, JMO though

Wow. I didn't hear that at all. My dh was just there the other day but I did hear someone on fb say that the cops were called because someone said there was a dead body in the woods over there by the park-
