5 Month Old and Sleeping - help!

So my 5 month old is still not sleeping through the night. He goes to sleep around 9:30 and will at times go until 5/5:30 am and wake for a bottle. Those nights are wonderful. He'll even do that a few nights in a row. Other nights he'll wake at 1 or 2 or 3. I don't think he's hungry at those times but rather has trouble falling back to sleep and staying asleep. Even during the day his naps are very short - usually not longer than a half hour. I don't think he gets enough sleep during the day, however I have no idea how to make him sleep for a longer period and he is always very pleasant. It is very difficult for him to fall asleep at any time. He needs to be bounced, walked around and shushed - which can be exhausting. I try to have him fall asleep on his own for the first nap of the day - its hard with the other naps because my other boys are sleeping and I don't want to wake them up with his crying. He will get to the point where his eyes are completely closed and he is just whining and crying a little. As soon as I pick him up he will calm down and conk out. If I leave him, he just goes on that way - he can't calm himself down then. I try to put him down immediately after he calms. With DS2 I did end up letting him CIO at night at 8 months old but I am hoping to do other things in order to not get to that point again. He does not take a pacifier but he does have a lovely and I put some ocean sounds on for him. Any idea is welcomed and appreciated!!!!!!!

5 Month Old and Sleeping - help!

My DS is a little over 7 months old and still doesn't sleep through the night. I don't have any other children he would wake up at night but I have a husband who needs his sleep since he's up at 5AM for work. This is what we've been doing and it's been helping:

For his naps:
At 5 months old I would just rock him in the glider until he fell asleep. At about 6 months old I realized he needed to learn how to soothe himself. I don't like him CIO really but when he was moaning or whining I would leave him be. I put the monitor all the way down and would just watch it if it lite up. When I laid him down I would put the heartbeat sound on, his mobile on with the music from that (it lasts 20 minutes), put a blanket on him and give him his lovely, then I would say "naptime". It took a few days but he eventually would put himself to sleep for his naps. Now that he is teething he's taking a pacifier for naps but spits it out when he's done. At just over 7 months old I now put him down for a nap and he goes to sleep rather quickly most times.

For bed:
This is still a work in progress. DH rocks him in the glider to put him to sleep. I JUST started to not give him a bottle in the middle of the night. We make sure he finishes his whole bottle and his food before bed. Once he went through the night I knew he didn't need that middle of the night feeding anymore. I would pick him up and rock him in the glider. The SECOND the pacifier went in his mouth he would fall asleep. I stopped picking him up 3 weeks ago, give him the pacifier and put the mobile music on. He goes back to sleep. I tried taking the sleepsack off and he woke up even more.

Good luck! I hope some of this helps.
