it just describes the design style.

Mission style furniture is usually very simple and linear.

Just kidding, it usually is very linear in design, mission is a style that is sometimes associated with craftsman style homes & often southwest/western styles.

Very simple lines and design. I love Mission furniture.

I think the name comes from the style of furniture used in the old Spanish missions in California and the southwest.

Style as posters said, above. Originally, heavy, and dark-stained wood, simple lines, vertical.

Think squares, no curved lines and slats of wood. If you do a google image search for "mission style", you'll see some great examples towards the bottom of the page.

We love mission style. Especially for outside lighting.
