 | Anybody ever not have a name when baby came and felt stuck? So I know that I have some time, but as it stands DH and I can't agree on a boy's name. We don't like each other's choices and feel frustrated by this. Our girl name is picked out and we both are really happy with it but we don't know what we are having.
Anybody ever have to take the baby home nameless?

I tried and that made matters worse. I even tried the angle of carrying and giving birth and DH got pouty and said he was just a sperm donor.

 | Re: Anybody ever not have a name when baby came and felt stuck? First off... they don't let you take the baby home without a name. Well, at least here in NC they don't.
We couldn't agree on a name either and we FINALLY decided on a name the 2nd day I was in the hospital and then we FINALLY decided on the spelling on the last day we were there. I had a c-section so I had more time to think about it. The hospital staff was frustrated with us for not having a name all ready.
Everyone just referred to him as Baby Boy LAST NAME! |

 | Re: Anybody ever not have a name when baby came and felt stuck? I didn't know you had to name the kid before leaving.
I had a professor in college who said he and his wife couldn't agree on a name and brought the kid home and for two weeks he didn't have a name. They finally decided on Eli. Bizarre prof.

Anyway, you are only like halfway through your pregnancy, so don't worry...you got plenty of time!

When in doubt, pick a name for ER, its worked for lots of us!

What about Joseph Vincent as a compromise?

 | Re: Anybody ever not have a name when baby came and felt stuck? I feel your pain. I am 34 weeks along and we know we are having a boy.. and we STILL have not decided on a name yet -- in fact the more we discuss it, we make less and less progress!
Our girls name was picked out too, we both loved it and there was no debate over it. Boys names are very very hard for us - either he likes it, I dont - or vice versa. Or we just feel "neutral" about the names we sort of agree on..

I'm hoping to at least narrow it down soon to about 3-4 names and then wait until the baby is born and figure out what 'suits' him best!

I've always had a belief, not that it's always correct but usually it is, that when you have a name for one gender but not the other, you're probably carrying that gender. So IMO, you're having a girl.

DH tried this combo but his father's name is Joseph and I don't want to name a baby after his or my father. Besides, then the kid who have his father's first AND last name. I don't want that!

I have heard this be correct in a lot of cases. My mom had my brother's name picked out and never thought of a girl's name. My coworker had a girl's name picked out and couldn't agree on one for a boy. My best friend had the same experience.

Then again, reading what Felicia posted, this may not work

I think Vincent Joseph is great...this way your DH still gets Joseph and you get Vincent....

Yes, leave it to me to ruin all those old wives tales
I think in our case we were just sooo totally completely convinced we were having a girl, and so was everyone else- that we never allowed ourselves to think of boys' names. I still have them check everytime we have a sonogram to be sure he's a boy

But in a case like yours, where you aren't finding out the sex .. I understand why you have to have a boys and girls name picked out!

Juliet are you going to find out at your 20 week whether its a boy or girl? If so, I'd wait and see if you even need to be worrying about boys names.

DH wanted Vincent Joseph. I said over his dead body. We settled on Joseph Vincent. I even called him from the hospital & said "I'm here with the nurse filing out the paperwork. Are you absolutely sure we should name him Joseph Vincent? He looks like John or Jack to me."

 Ways to get your way:

Make a short list of names & have him pick from that.

When people ask you what the name is, say with confidence the name you want.

Immediately after labor (when he's seen you in pain), you say "I really wanted it to be XXXX if it was a boy."
