Those who have taken Clomid ...
Has anyone taken Clomid for reasons other than inducing ovulation?
I met with the RE for the first time last night, and she suggested I start Clomid with my next cycle. We know for sure that I am ovulating - my issue is excessive spotting before AF. I am not 100% clear on WHY my RE is suggesting this course of action (I did ask, but clearly am still confused).

i have taken it a few cycles but it was to ensure ovulation. maybe he is giving it to you so you will O a certain time in your cycle to see if it helps with the spotting.
With clomid i o late cd19-22.

I've taken it even though I ovulate on my own. The idea was to produce more follicles -- i.e. more "targets" and, hence, more opportunities to for an egg to fertilize. Good luck!

As you know, I have the same issue....I took Clomid for one cycle and took Femara (pretty much the same thing) this cycle.
Even if you are ovulating, Clomid could help with better eggs and more of them, so that your chances are increased. At least, that is how it was explained to me!

Clomid also helps increase progresterone, so maybe he is thinking it will help the spotting as well by increasing progesterone.

Thats why i'm taking it also, and how my RE explained it to me. I do ovulate on my own, but the Clomid helps produce more follicles, and increases the chances of something to fertilize.
i actually O'd earlier than i had when i wasn't on Clomid

Spotting before AF can indicate a short LP due to low progesterone. Clomid can help lengthen your LP.

This is why I took Clomid too. My RE said that not every egg is a "baby egg" so by producing 2 or 3 follicles per cycle instead of just one you can increase your chances of getting that "baby egg." I got my BFP on my second IUI with Clomid. Good luck!

Thanks, everyone!
Your explanations make a lot of sense. Not sure why my RE couldn't explain this to me. 
I am going in to see the RE on Tuesday to get the Clomid (apparently she needs to do a sono to check for cysts beforehand ??). I hope to get a direct answer from her then!

Good Luck.. I am now on clomid and preparing for IUI #2. I too ovulate on my own but was hoping for my targets etc.

I took clomid to increase the number of eggs that I had. I took 50mgs and got 2 eggs....
