Warning For South Nassau Area! PLEASE READ!!!
My mom sent this info to me yesterday! One of these burglaries was a few blocks from my house!
Be aware!!!
From the Nassau County PD...
1st Incident
NCPD Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a burglary that occurred in Massapequa Park on Tuesday, 10/20/09 at 5:15 P.M.
Detectives report that a male subject, posing as a county surveyor, knocked on the door of a female victim, 83, located on Brendan Ave., and stated he was there in regards to a survey on her neighbor’s fence. The victim went into the rear yard with the subject, leaving her front door open. While in the yard, the subject had a conversation with an unknown person on his cell phone and then left the scene on foot. The victim returned inside to find her bedroom had been ransacked and assorted jewelry was stolen.
No injuries were reported.
The subject is described as a male white in his late 50’s, 5’8” tall, thin build, possible mustache, wearing a blue baseball cap with the word “COUNTY” on it and a blue denim jacket.
2nd Incident
NCPD First Squad detectives are also investigating a burglary that occurred in North Bellmore on Tuesday, 10/20/09 at 3:45 P.M.
Detectives report that a male subject, posing as a county worker, approached a male victim, 88, while in his garage, and stated he needed to speak to him in reference to his neighbor’s fence that he was working on. The victim and his wife let the subject enter the residence and then went into the rear yard with the subject to discuss the work being done. The female victim, 81, became suspicious and demanded to see the subject’s identification. The subject left to retrieve his ID, but never returned. The victim went into her bedroom and discovered that assorted jewelry was missing.
No injuries were reported.
The subject is described as a male white in his mid to late 50’s, 5’9”-5’10” tall, average build, wearing a blue baseball cap with the word “COUNTY” on it, a blue jacket and carrying a walkie talkie type phone on his belt. No further description is available.
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding these crimes to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

I get so pisssed when criminals focus on the elderly!  If my grandparents were still alive, I would tell them to not answer the door UNLESS they are expecting someone.

i know it's terrible! but i wanted to make sure everyone knew because they could try it with anyone, especially women home alone!
