I did some research today re: the 'cash for clunkers".
to qualify for $3500, the car you buy has to get bteween 4-9 MPG more than what your current car gets.
for $4500, your new car has to get 10+ MPG above what your current car gets.

we're doing our research now. with the cash for clunkers deal (DH drives an old Land Rover with terrible gas mileage) and the fact that Ford and GM are practically giving their cars away it looks like we could get a new Focus, Fusion, Cobalt or Pontiac for well under $15,000 with 0% financing.

I was excited to do this - but you only get scrap value for your car. So if you car is worth more than $4500, you just just trade it in old school.
