Breastfeeding moms: Need a list of what I need please!
Hi ladies!
I tried BF-ing DD#1 and only lasted about a week b/c I was sick, had fever, had pre-eclampsia, had a c-section, and it HURT! This time around, with DD#2 due in August, I want to make sure I am prepared for everything as much as possible...and I don't know where to start.
I already have: Medela Double Breast Pump and bottles Lansinoh creme Lansinoh nursing pads 4 nursing bras 1 nursing tank 1 nursing pj set
What else am I missing? How many tanks should I buy???
PLEASE HELP! I am overwhelmed with the amount of stuff on the internet and don't want to waste a ton of money on things I don't really need.
Thanks in advance, ladies! ~Denise

Def more tanks! I lived in them...wore them to bed, under my clothes to make nursing easier. Definitely get a boppy or mybreast friend pillow.

I recommend 2 boppies if you have a 2-story house - PITA to carry it up and down the stairs.
Milk storage bags also.
I would agree I used the tanks way more than bras. i just wore one everyday (for like a year!) with a cardigan or something over it for easy access.

Extra horns and values if you are going to be pumping a lot.
A sleep nursing bra, I loved mine for nighttime since I had to sleep in something.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
Where can I get inexpensive nursing tanks? I bought a Motherhood one for $25!
Do they have them cheaper anywhere else?

Ditto more tanks, love them. I would also stock up on more pads, when you first start out, you go through a lot of them. A boppby is useful as well.
Please keep in mind that it will still hurt this time around, just keep with it it does eventually go away.
Good Luck
Oh, one more thing, I would get extra storage bottles if you will be storing milk. I only had the four that came with the pump and was washing them all the time.

Re: Breastfeeding moms: Need a list of what I need please!
Dumb question - Do you wear a bra under the nursing tanks or do the Target ones provide enough support to wear alone?? Are they thick enough that people don't see your "headlights" blaring if it gets a bit...chilly? LOL.
Thanks for the suggestion about the extra storage bottles, LeShelle. I didn't even think of that!
I forgot to add that I have a Bobby as well...
ETA: What about for nipple pain? Some women use those gel pads that you freeze. Which ones are best???
What do you ladies do about the pain? How do you get past it?

I can't say they were the most supportive - but they did the trick. I never wore anything under it. They're pretty thick but headlights can always be a problem. In the beginning, I found myself with the pads on anyway, so that would take care of that.
for the pain, just be good about putting the cream on after every nursing session. You can start putting it on a few weeks before you deliver too to help.

Re: Breastfeeding moms: Need a list of what I need please!
Personally I think you are all set to begin BFing and don't need anything else for the first month. After you are comfortable and completely successful then go out and treat yourself and your accomplishment to things that YOU think will make your life easier.
ETA: I had 2 hand me down nursing bras from my sister, no tanks, no pjs and no pump when I came home from the hospital. I bought a pump when DD was 6 weeks old. I also bought nursing bras/tanks after that.

I believe you shouldn't use anything cold as it can cause you to dry up. The pain is usually bearable as it only lasts about 30 seconds or so once DC latches on. After that there isn't any pain. Just hold you breath and wait it out. If it hurts past the 30 or so seconds then you will need to call your doctor. Just know the pain will go away and you are doing a good thing for your child.

I didn't nurse for very long, but I will say that the pain was minimal after the first week and I never had any cracking or bleeding or any of that stuff and I truly believe it's because I prepped before hand..
I put the cream on every day for about a month or so BEFORE DD was born. She was EBF for the first month and then I supplemented for the next 2 months.

Hmmm...maybe something was wrong, then...b/c it hurt me THE ENTIRE TIME she was latched on. It was excrutiating. I did end up with mastitis, but by that point, I quit BF-ing.
How many times a day did you put the cream on? Did you do it at night and do you let it air dry or can you just put your bra on and go?
DD#2 is not due until Aug 7th, so if I start now, I should be good by then, right???

See, that's just it - I am ALREADY in that frame of mind! After the rude awakening I received when tyring to BF DD, I am def NOT delusional! It wasn't a walk in the park like I used to think....
I am trying to get OUT of the negative frame of mind by equipping myself with an arsenal of supplies and information. LOL....you girls have all been so helpful so far, I appreciate all the input!
