40 weeks and 2 cm...

This kid doesn't want to come out!

I was somewhat disappointed with todays doctor visit. She said things didn't seem "imminent" and it could be another week. Chat Icon Chat Icon

For some reason, I always felt I'd go early. Like a week early, so in my head, I'm already a week behind!

Now a week isn't so long, but I'm just tired of waiting, and tired of answering the same questions everyday from everyone.

I DON'T want to be induced, so I'm ok with waiting, its just exhausting...(and yet at the same time I feel so unprepared for what will come next, that I don't want to rush things)

(ok, vent over)

It stinks waiting. I was five days late and everyone asks you the same questions every time the phone rings. I remember how annoying it was!

I hope your little one makes his/her arrival soon!

I didn't want to be induced either. I was dead set against it and was so happy my son decided I went to labor on my own.

Gee, and I thought you were due earlier. I guess I didn't help matters.

Maybe this kid wants to be born a Cancer instead of Gemini

The day before my son was born I was only 1 cm dialated and my doc said that things weren't "imminent" either and even spoke about induction. Well at midnight I had my first contraction and had my son at 5:59 that evening. So you NEVER know Lisa. I'm sending you tons and tons of labor vibes.Chat Icon

my cervix was completely shut at 39 weeks, my sugars were dropping (i had GD) and Chat Icon positioning was downish but not engaged...

we went in to get her. i was against induction and my dr. stated it was a good thing we did what we did as there was no way that my 8 pounder positioned the way she was would come out of my tiny little frame successfully!

hang in there, good luck!

Lisa - I was thinking about you. Glad to hear an update. Hope your week flies by!! If it makes you feel any better - I was 0 cm and showing no signs about 3 days before my water broke. I was still 0 cm when my water broke.

I'm here with you kiddo !!! Chat Icon

I had a big presentation at work today - and after last week's appt I didn't think I'd be there for it.

Dr. says I am 4cm BUT haven't had a single contraction yet......... Basically I've been told it could happen ANY MINUTE.....

It's going to be a long, hot weekend.....Chat Icon

Natural Ways to Induce Labor

If the medical methods of jump starting labor sound a bit off putting, there are a number of home remedies for inducing labor naturally when you are past your due date. But remember: none of these remedies will start labor unless you have already begun to dilate. However, some methods can help you to tone and soften your uterus.

1. Eat spicy foods or pineapple.Chat Icon Chat Icon

2. Go for a walk or march up some stairs.
Chat Icon Chat Icon This is thought to bring on labor because of the pressure of the baby’s head pressing down on your cervix. At the very least, walking can help get your baby into a better position for labor.

3. Have sex. Chat Icon Chat Icon A favorite for many pregnant women, sex can help by releasing a hormone called oxytocin, which causes the uterus to contract. Additionally, semen contains a substance known as prostaglandins, which will help soften the cervix.

4. Nipple stimulation.Chat Icon Chat Icon For those who find sex just too uncomfortable right now, nipple stimulation may be a better choice. It helps to bring on labor in much the same way sex does, by releasing oxytocin. However, this method may take a bit more effort than sex to start labor.

5. Stretching of the uterine opening membranes.Chat Icon Chat Icon This can be done by your doctor or midwife and has been found to increase the chances of labor starting within 48 hours.

6. Complementary therapies. Chat Icon Acupuncture, massage, teas, herbs and homeopathic remedies can be helpful when it comes to inducing labor. However, make sure you go to a licensed practitioner who has experience treating pregnant women.

One home remedy that is often recommended to pregnant women is castor oil taken either alone or with orange juice. While some women swear by this method, many experts and women who have tried it will strongly advise you against it. Castor oil may or may not bring on labor but it will definitely make you nauseous Chat Icon, cause you to vomit Chat Icon, have diarrhea Chat Icon and suffer severe cramps Chat Iconso just steer clear of this home remedy.

Re: 40 weeks and 2 cm...

Your post reminds me of myself with my first pregnancy with Luke. My due date came and went and I was sure he'd never come out. I was barely 1 cm dialated at my 40 weeks, 3 days pregnant OB appt. 2 days later I went into labor and had him. Hang in there, its not unusual to not seem like you will be having the baby anytime soon and then it happens... Soon enough you'll be holding your sweet baby.
