4 year old with a headache?
How do you know if it's just a headache or of its something more serious? My 4.5 yo DS woke up this morning saying his head and belly hurt. I thought maybe he was just hungry and he ate a little bit of his bagel and drank some milk. He then said his head was ok but his belly still hurt a little bit so he laid on the couch. Then he was playing with his brother and sister and seemed fine. We went outside he kept asking for water and I gave it to him and he was playing fine with his siblings. Nothing unusual. We came back in for lunch and he said he just wants to lay on the couch for a little while because his head and tummy still hurt. He drank his milk and now he's just laying on the couch. I'm going to give him some Tylenol but none of my kids have ever had a headache before so I'm not sure. Do I just give him Tylenol and keep an eye on him and call the ped if it continues?

Re: 4 year old with a headache?
Someone posted the same thing the other day... Ended up being allergies... It could be he is a little dehydrated. It could be anything. If he is lethargic, I would take him to the dr.

That was me!!
Yup, DS woke up with the same symptoms exactly. I gave him some Children's Advil the first day since he had no fever and just thought maybe he was tired from a long week of being out late and lots going on (that week we had something every day and night). Anyway, he was a bit more lathergic than usual and not himself most of the day. No fever though. When he woke up the 2nd day still feeling the same way I made a Doc appt. She tested him for Strep bc she said a headache is usually a symptom of it. She also said it could be allergies bc it's been really bad this season and she's seen a bigger case of kids coming in. Anyway, Strep was negative and also after looking into the nose, throat and ears said it's allergies. He has bad seasonal allergies, but worse in the Spring so didn't think of that. I got him started right on the allergy meds (bc he has bad allergies to pollen he has a prescription from his allergist) along with Nasacort (over the counter Flonase) and he had a quick turn around and has been fine since. Headache from the congestion and belly hurt from post nasal drip. All cleared up with the meds fast. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much! I just gave him children's Tylenol and he's laying on the couch watching tv. I called DH and he also said maybe allergies. If he is still complaining when DH gets home from work I'm going to bring him to the ped. We were outside all day yesterday at the ecology center so I guess it would make sense. I feel much better now! Thanks ladies!!

Re: 4 year old with a headache?
If his stomach continues to hurt and he says he's thirst i'd get a quick strep swab. My DD has had strep even without fever and apparently belly ache is one of the signs in a young child.

Thank you! He seems fine this morning but if he complains at all today I'm taking him right to the pediatrician.

My dd 4 was saying this for a while . Then I caught myself complaining out loud about headaches . Once I stopped , she stopped.
